Common FAQs

Medications

All medications, prescription and over-the-counter MUST be accompanied with a medication form (CLICK HERE). This form needs to be handed in to your science teacher along with your permission form as soon as possible, but no later than JAN 9.

  • Each medication needs a separate form

  • If you do not take any medications, you do not need to submit a medication form

  • All meds will need to be dropped off and picked up by an adult, not a student

  • Ms. Brown, our school nurse, will follow up with any further information, questions, and steps when you submit your form(s)

Permission Forms

Permission Forms (CLICK HERE) should be filled out and handed in to your science teacher as soon as possible, but no later than JAN 15

  • It is better to have a permission form handed in and last minute not be able to go than to not have a permission form!

  • The permission form is available in 7 MCPS Translated languages (CLICK HERE)

  • Permission forms MUST be signed by student’s adult

The cost of the Outdoor Education Field Trip $90. This covers: a bus for transportation; breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a snack; sleep space; additional supplies for lesson enrichment

Food:

The Outdoor Education program has a MCPS kitchen so the food follows the MCPS nutrition guidelines. You may see the menu online (CLICK HERE)

  • If the food does not satisfy your student’s dietary requirements, please let Ms. Hawkins and Mrs. Wendt know as soon as possible so we can help you make alternate arrangements

Modified Schedule:

This is an overnight trip. Students will be in bunkrooms supervised by high school chaperones, in between each bunk room is a teacher room with at least 2 teacher. We understand that there are various reasons why families might prefer a different schedule

  • If you’d prefer to pick your student up from the Lanthrop E Smith Center (5110 Meadowside Lane Rockville MD 20855) each evening, let Mrs. Wendt (jessica_l_wendt@mcpsmd.org) and Ms. Hawkins (brittany_hawkins@mcpsmd.org) know

  • We do encourage students to try to stay the night though, so please also let us know if you know another student going who might help your student feel comfortable

If there is a family reason you need to change dates – let us know your original trip date and your requested date. We are organizing this trip for over 350 students so we cannot guarantee a schedule change for this but we will do our best!
