The ProStart program introduces high school students to a wide variety of careers within the restaurant, foodservice and hospitality industry. Students will study and practice professional food preparation, preparation of international cuisines, food safety and sanitation, customer service relations, accounting, cost control, marketing and an introduction to aspects of lodging management.
ServSafe is NOT affiliated with ProStart- it is the national safety and sanitation course and certification that is recognized by the United States Department of Health. Anywhere serving any type of food must have a ServSafe Certified Food Handling Manager working every shift. If the health inspector comes in, this is the only person they want to talk to. ServSafe is required for MSDE Food and Beverage Management Pathway. Students who pass and go to culinary school will be able to skip Food Sanitation 105.
