Are you up for the challenge?
Are you up for the challenge?
Come to the media center to pick up an entry form and check out one of the books from the display.
Our first monthly reading challenge will be out on Monday, September 14th.
Come hang out in the media center during lunch! Maker Monday is all about everything crafting. Tuesday, we're focused on all things reading. Wednesday, we're closed. Thursday is game day - we announce the game in advance and you can sign up to play starting the Monday before. Friday, we're cool, calm, and collected for a relaxed lunchtime.
This is what the schedule looks like for a normal week. Sometimes, there will be changes - check the board in the media center to see what's going on that week!
Want to read really interesting books, have fun during lunches, and then compete against other middle school to see who knows the most? Book Wars is for you!
Attend a Book Wars Interest Meeting during lunch on Wednesday, September 29th, 2026.

Applications will be available for 6th graders on October 28, 2027.

How to Participate
Read at least 5 books from the Black Eyed Susan Nominee list.
After you finish reading each book, fill out this form. That means you'll fill out the form 5 separate times.
Answer all questions on the form thoughtfully. Make sure to write in complete sentences for the short answer questions.
Hit the submit button!
If you successfully complete the challenge, you will be invited to a Black-Eyed Susan voting party to help decide which book should be selected as one the best books in the state of Maryland. The voting party will include treats and prizes.
You must complete the challenge by Friday, April 9, 2027.
The voting party will take place sometime during the week of April 13-16, 2027. More details about the party will be out closer to April. See Ms. Natale with any questions.
Contests that don't involve reading? We have those, too!
This year we've run a bookmark design contest, creative writing contest, poetry contest, and a graphic novel contest. We even have a Connect Four tournament.
Check this site, the media center, and listen to the morning announcements for when these opportunities start!
