Throughout February, the Gaithersburg Community Museum will honor Black History Month with a variety of engaging activities and a special poster exhibit celebrating notable Black heroes from Maryland. Drop in anytime during museum hours to explore the exhibit and participate in hands-on activities that celebrate and recognize the rich contributions of Black individuals to our history and community.
Black History Month Family Day at the Josiah Henson Museum

Reverend Josiah Henson worked tirelessly throughout his life to advocate for freedom and education. This Saturday, come visit the Josiah Henson Museum and Park for educational, hands-on activities that demonstrate what a child’s life was like in Dawn, the settlement he created after taking his family to Canada via the Underground Railroad.
The family-friendly event is appropriate for all ages. Free with paid admission.
Admission, $4 for children and seniors, and $5 for adults. Tickets available onsite.
Guest parking is 1.5 blocks away at the Shriver Aquatic Center in Wall Local Park, located at 5900 Executive Boulevard.

Kids and families of all ages are welcome to drop-in to Black History Month Family Day. Enjoy hands-on activities including compass making, share what freedom means to you, map your own family tree, and more! There will also be story times at 11:30 am and 1:30 pm. This event takes place inside the Woodlawn Manor House. Admission, FREE.

The Black History Month theme for 2025 is “African Americans and Labor.” This small, curated display highlights different facets of Black labor in the United States from the colonial period through the 1960s.
The Black-Eyed Susan Book Award Program is a program sponsored by the Maryland Association of School Librarians. Each year a panel of Maryland school librarians chooses a list of outstanding books that feature teenage protagonists. Come to the Library Media Center to borrow this year's books or check SORA for the e-book version.
