Dear Parents and Guardians,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Mrs. Matthews, and I am the new School Counselor for Sherwood Elementary School. I am thrilled to be part of the Sherwood family. I have heard such wonderful things about our school as well as our community. I feel extremely fortunate to be part of it.

My husband and I are both native Marylanders. I grew up in Rockville with my parents and 3 brothers. I am an alumni of Holy Cross Academy, and my brothers are Good Counsel alumni. We live in Montgomery County. My husband is an outpatient physical therapist. We spend most of our time keeping up with our daughters, Logan, who is a 10th grader, and Piper, an 8th grader. We enjoy playing board games,  going to the beach, and watching movies- we are big fans of action movies and all things Marvel.

I bring a variety of experiences as both School Counselor and Classroom Teacher from 9 different schools over the past 28 years. I started my career in MCPS as an elementary teacher. I spent 9 years in the elementary setting and found teaching to be extremely rewarding. I earned my masters degree in School Counseling in 1999. I have worked as a School Counselor at all levels. My most recent experience has been at the high school level, where I worked with students to grow academically, socially, and emotionally as they become college and career ready.

I am delighted to have the opportunity to return to the elementary level. I look forward to meeting with students individually, in small groups, and in classrooms. As a School Counselor, my primary responsibility is to promote the academic, social and emotional development of all our students. It is important to me that I work closely as a team with parents/guardians, teachers, administration, and staff to ensure your student is receiving all the support they need in order to be successful.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns at Pauline_W_Matthews@mcpsmd.org or 240-740-0967. I look forward to working with you all and getting to know your students throughout the school year!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Matthews
