General Reference

Britannica School is an encyclopedia where you can search for articles on various topics.

Escolar Online is the Britannica School encyclopedia in Spanish. Find articles on various topics written in Spanish.

Britannica Original Sources contains  primary source documents IN HISTORY, LITERATURE, SCIENCE, LAW, POLITICS, RELIGION, AND MORE.

Factcite includes articles of people, places, and events that shape our society and the world around us.

General OneFile includes articles from magazines, books, newspapers, and academic journals on over 500 topics.

Gale In Context Elementary includes articles, images & videos about Animals, Arts, Geography, Health, Literature, Social Studies, Technology, and more.

Gale In Context Middle School includes reference information in videos, newspapers, magazines, primary sources, and much more. Categories cover a range of the most-studied topics.

SIRS Issue Researcher helps middle and high school students with research on current issues. 

SIRS Discoverer is a database of articles & images from newspapers, magazines, government documents, and websites. 

Language Arts

OverDrive/Sora is our shared collection of digital books, both print and audio. The collection is shared across the MCPS.

TumbleBook Library has animated “talking” books. You can read a book on your own or have it read to you.

MCPL Databases has magazine articles, encyclopedias, and eBooks to support your research and personal interests.

Teaching Books has author interviews, book summaries, and other information about books and authors.

Hoopla is a digital media service offered by Montgomery County Public Libraries that allows you to borrow movies, music, audiobooks, ebooks, comics and TV shows to enjoy on your computer, tablet, or phone – and even your TV! A library card is needed to set up an account.

Science

National Geographic Kids provides magazines, videos, and photos about adventures in science, nature, culture, archaeology, and space. 

Scienceflix includes videos, articles, images, and  eBooks on a variety of science topics.

World Studies/History

Britannica School is an encyclopedia where you can search for articles on various topics.

Culturegrams has information on 182 countries and cultures, including history, land and climate, religion, personal appearance, gestures, language, government, and family life.

Factcite includes articles of people, places, and events that shape our society and the world around us.

World Languages

Escolar Online is the Britannica School encyclopedia in Spanish. Find articles on various topics written in Spanish.

Britannica Online Japan offers quick access to reliable, comprehensive information, and is an essential resource for conducting research for native Japanese speakers and students learning Japanese.

MANGO is a language learning program containing over 30 world languages to support the learning of conversational & formal language. 

Encyclopaedia Universalis offers access to more than 38,000 articles including exclusive articles; a world atlas with over 1400 maps; an integrated dictionary; and a guide to selected Web sites. 

Universalis Junior Online provides a fresh look at a wide array of topics such as history, geography, science, and technology. French-language students will be challenged with vocabulary.
