As an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme School, we pride ourselves on service and action within the community. In order to continue this work in our virtual setting, weekly Connect Time meetings were used to promote, explore and create service and action learning opportunities.
6th & 7th Grade Projects -
6th and 7th grade students worked in small groups to explore topics of interest, create an action on their topic and reflect on the work completed and skills utilized throughout the process. Click on the 6th & 7th Grade Projects tab to see some of the amazing work that was completed!
8th Grade Community Project -
The IB Community Project is a major activity for students to complete in the final year (Year 3 = Grade 8) of the MYP program at Roberto Clemente Middle School. The community project focuses on community and service, encouraging students to explore their right and responsibility to implement service as action in the community. The community project gives students an opportunity to develop awareness of needs in various communities and address those needs through service learning. The community project can be completed individually or collaboratively in groups. Students who submitted complete Community Projects will earn 15 SSL hours for their efforts. Student presentations and evidence of actions can be found in the 8th Grade Community Projects tab.
The aims of the MYP projects are to encourage and enable students to:
participate in a sustained, self-directed inquiry within a global context
generate creative new insights and develop deeper understandings through in-depth investigation
demonstrate the skills, attitudes and knowledge required to complete a project over an extended period of time
communicate effectively in a variety of situations
demonstrate responsible action through, or as a result of, learning
appreciate the process of learning and take pride in their accomplishments.
