18th annual MCPS Historically Black Colleges & Universities
(HBCU) College Fair
This free in-person event is held at The Universities at Shady Grove will provide students in Grades 8–12 an opportunity to meet representatives from more than 50 HBCUs. Representatives will share information and answer questions from students and parents about admissions, financial aid, testing, majors and much more. The event will also feature a college preparation workshop for middle school students and parents, a discussion on college life, FAFSA completion assistance, scholarship information and more. This event is co-sponsored by Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) and the Montgomery County Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

Friday, February 20, 2026 – 9th Grade College Tour Field Trip
Our 9th graders will have the exciting opportunity to visit Towson University for a full-day college tour! This field trip is for 9th grade students only. Students will explore the campus, learn about academic programs, and get an early look at college life. More details including permission slips, departure/return times, and logistics will be shared in the coming weeks.
Wednesday, April 22, 2026 – NACAC College Fair Field Trip
Our 11th grade students will be able to attend the NACAC College Fair. Students will have the chance to visit representatives from over 200 colleges, attend workshops, and gather valuable information for their post-secondary plans. More details including permission slips, transportation information, and event logistics will be shared soon.

Calling all seniors! Apply today for the Montgomery County Public School’s (MCPSEF) Student Scholarships & Awards! Opportunities are open to students passionate about pursuing career and educational goals, who face opportunity gaps in achieving those goals.
Applications open through January 20, 2026!
These opportunities include the MCPSEF:
Rales-O’Neill Scholarship ($10,000) for students with a WGPA 4.75+ with financial need. 230 scholarships available!
Begelman, Cafritz, and Vance Scholarships ($6,000-$10,000) for students eligible for the Free and Reduced-price Meals (FARMS) program.
Cesar Pie Cyber-Defender Scholarship ($10,000) for students pursuing a career in cybersecurity.
And more!
Many opportunities allow scholars to use funds for tuition – or receive funds directly and use for other educational expenses such as books, computers, and living expenses.

To prepare for the launch of this year’s form 2026-2027 FASFA, students and families should follow these tips:
Create a StudentAid.gov account (if you don’t already have one). Also, during lunch on the days listed below, you can stop by the Career Center to get help on creating your account:
10/6, 10/24, 11/10 & 11/11
Create Your MDCAPS Account to access the Maryland College Aid Processing System (MDCAPS).
Learn about the documents you may need to fill out the FAFSA form.
Determine your dependency status and whether your parent(s) or spouse will be required to contribute information on your FAFSA form.
We will be hosting two FAFSA Completion Nights at NWHS! Please mark your calendars and keep an eye out for the registration flyer.
