18th annual MCPS Historically Black Colleges & Universities
(HBCU) College Fair
This free in-person event is held at The Universities at Shady Grove will provide students in Grades 8–12 an opportunity to meet representatives from more than 50 HBCUs. Representatives will share information and answer questions from students and parents about admissions, financial aid, testing, majors and much more. The event will also feature a college preparation workshop for middle school students and parents, a discussion on college life, FAFSA completion assistance, scholarship information and more. This event is co-sponsored by Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) and the Montgomery County Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

Wednesday, April 22, 2026 – NACAC College Fair Field Trip
Our 11th grade students will have the opportunity to attend the NACAC College Fair. During the fair, students will be able to meet with representatives from over 200 colleges, attend informational workshops, and gather valuable resources to support their post-secondary plans. Please use the link below to review important field trip information. Hard copies of the permission forms are available in the Career Center (Room 126).
Summer R.I.S.E.
The program is for rising MCPS juniors and seniors to participate in a career-based learning opportunity during the summer. Students will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning opportunities related to their field of interest. The program will run for 5 weeks, from June 22 through July 24, with a minimum of 50 hours of either in-person, virtual or a combination of the two experiences.
Student registration opens on Monday, January 12th at 8:00 a.m.

9th Grade College Tour Field Trip
Northwest HS is excited to partner with the Montgomery County Career Advising Program (MoCoCAP) to offer grade 9 students an opportunity to visit Towson University on Friday, February 20, 2026. Early exposure to college can assist students in making more informed decisions about their post-secondary plans and further students' development toward college, career, and community readiness.
Please note that space is limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis upon return of the field trip permission form to Ms. Miller in the Career Center (RM 126). To prepare for the launch of this year’s form 2026-2027 FASFA, students and families should follow these tips:
Create a StudentAid.gov account (if you don’t already have one). Also, during lunch on the days listed below, you can stop by the Career Center to get help on creating your account:
10/6, 10/24, 11/10 & 11/11
Create Your MDCAPS Account to access the Maryland College Aid Processing System (MDCAPS).
Learn about the documents you may need to fill out the FAFSA form.
Determine your dependency status and whether your parent(s) or spouse will be required to contribute information on your FAFSA form.
We will be hosting two FAFSA Completion Nights at NWHS! Please mark your calendars and keep an eye out for the registration flyer.
