Please use the flowcharts below to determine how to register on PDO. Everyone will register for course #92627 NEO: New Educator Orientation 2024, however, the flowcharts will show which sections to register for. All participants will be registering for multiple sections. More information about registering for the virtual session on Thursday, August 15 or Friday, August 16 are available below.

About the Thursday/Friday Virtual Sessions
NEO: Square Pegs in Round Holes: Challenges in Educating and Evaluating Multilingual Learners-Dr. Samuel Ortiz (PDO Course #92629)
The purpose of this presentation is to provide participants with current research on the relationship between language, cognitive, and academic development and how it may be used to guide the activities of pre-referral and post-referral assessment teams. Both the knowledge and materials gained from this presentation will provide individuals with a solid base for understanding the many challenges facing culturally and linguistically diverse children as they enter the school system and are expected to progress and learn in ways that are not always fair and equitable and which may mimic intrinsic signs of disability that are in fact circumstantially based and reflected in results from current evaluation methods.
This course has multiple date and time offerings. For English Language Development (ELD), Special Education, Physical Education and Health, One-Way Immersion, and Two-Way Immersion teachers who are attending Day 3 of NEO (August 15, 2024), please register for a section that does not conflict with your NEO Day 3 Schedule. **Please only register for ONE section of this course.**
