The Montgomery Village Middle School Counseling Department’s mission is to help students succeed academically, socially and personally so that they are life-long learners and responsible members of society.

As MVMS Counselors we will partner with students, parents, teachers, staff, and the community to develop open-minded, reflective, life-long learners, and global citizens.

MVMS Counseling Department will continue the following counseling services through MyMCPS/Google/Outlook during our distance learning:

• Individual Counseling
• Crisis Management
• Community Resource Referrals
• Collaboration with teachers and other staff members
• Consultation and coordination with parents & families
• College & Career Readiness **Naviance will be available only- self guided.

Due to limitations of sudden distance learning, there are certain counseling services that can't be provided. These services will not be given:

• Group sessions
• Mediations -Counselors and other supporting staff will follow up individually with students if there are obstacles with peers.
• Classroom Guidance Lessons- Instead students will have self-guided lessons online for social and emotional growth from MCPS.
• College and Career Readiness- Student Naviance access and lessons will be available, but others lessons/events are placed on hold or canceled.

Private information that is shared with the counselor is considered confidential (meaning it will not be shared with others), with the following exceptions:

• Potential self harm to the student
• Potential harm to the student
• Potential harm to others
• Cases of suspected abuse and/or neglect
• Legal proceedings
• Permission is granted by the student to share information

As school counselors regularly consult and collaborate with staff members regarding student needs, only information that is deemed necessary to fully support the student will be shared with staff.
