Senior Seminar is Statistical research is a course for twelfth graders who have completed a rigorous first course in Statistics. The instructor will choose a specific focus for the semester, with the first semester focused on social sciences (education or politics or sociology, etc) and the second semester focused on sports. These courses can be taken separately from each other.
Students will complete independent research projects using statistics applied to real-world concerns. The focus on the course is to have students
apply and interpret more advanced statistical procedures than those covered in the introductory course,
gather large multivariate datasets,
use statistical software packages such as Minitab, Fathom, JMP, or SPSS alongside spreadsheet programs and computer programming statistical function libraries,
formulate statistical questions not easily answered with a single procedure and devise statistical methods by which to answer them, and
produce academic statistical papers with special emphasis on the proper use of graphs and displays.
