Introduced in 2005, the Argyle Magnet program offers a rigorous academic program, which allows all students access and opportunity to take computer science focused elective courses. The program is designed to develop advanced skills in the areas of computer science (programming and cybersecurity), digital multimedia production, engineering, and digital art/design. Many of our advanced courses allow those that successfully complete the course to earn high school elective credit. In addition to a unique and specialized curriculum, 21st century technology tools are integrated into all curricular areas, allowing students and staff the opportunity to enhance the educational experience and support student achievement. Students have an opportunity to use the technology skills they have learned to complete projects showing what they have learned in other classes like English, World Studies, and Science.
All Argyle students take computer science and information technology focused courses. Argyle offers a uniquely specialized program of study that integrates technology across all disciplines. Our focus on mathematics and literacy skills ensures that students receive a well-rounded educational experience that promotes high levels of achievement for all. Argyle offers a unique approach to programming, utilizing gaming, simulation, robotics, and web design as a final product. Argyle students become well-versed in multi-media skills that translate into short films and digital presentations. Argyle students leave with the knowledge and skills to potentially become a Microsoft Office Specialist. Argyle grade 8 students complete a Capstone project in which they form small businesses using curriculum developed by Junior Achievement. They work with a collaborative business partner or non-profit organization to create a real technology project for the partner and deliver the project as if they own their own business.
Come to Argyle and INVENT THE FUTURE WITH US!
Argyle Magnet Middle School offers a specialized project experience at each grade level, culminating in the 8th grade Capstone Project. In 8th grade, students work in collaborative groups to develop a technology-related project to address a real world problem. All students present these projects at our annual Capstone Showcase in May, which is supported by our local business partners!
Admission to Argyle Magnet Middle School for Digital Design and Development is based on a lottery process. Grade 5 students who live within the geographic area of the three Middle School Magnet Consortium schools (Argyle, Loiederman, and Parkland) will participate in the Choice process and will be assigned to one of the MSMC schools for Grade 6. Parents of Montgomery County students living outside of the MSMC should complete the choice form from the MSMC website: https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/school-info/msmagnet/
