I want people to look at the bird, because I personally think he’s a cool dude who is a bird. The process of painting is stressful and makes me want to eat a whole bag of popcorn. My intentions behind this painting are to show something that is sort of cartoony, but shows a clear mood of a person being angry at things happening around them. -Madison

I want people to see my art and say “that’s cool” or “I like it” because at the end of the day, I wanted people to enjoy my art. --Ethan Q.

I wanted the painting to make you feel like an outsider looking in.The bright and colorful lights act as a distraction so that you don’t notice the depressed guy right away. But mostly I wanted them evoke the feeling of being knee-deep in a negative emotion while having to look at all the joy and positivity around you- it almost feels like a mockery. While drawing this, I thought of the line “It’s the most wonderful time of the year,” since it would act like salt on the wound for the character in the painting. Also, there is a santa in the painting, he’s a silhouette in the fireplace. Lastly, I did do a lot of color theory in the painting, so the colors and the placement of certain objects are also symbolic. --Rachel
