A community school is a public school that serves as a neighborhood hub, integrating academics with a wide range of health, social services, and community development opportunities for students and families. This "whole-child" approach uses partnerships to create supportive environments that address both academic and non-academic barriers to learning, with the goal of improving student outcomes and strengthening the wider community.
A community school liaison acts as a bridge between the school, students, and families, connecting them to school staff, community organizations, and resources. They facilitate communication, provide support for academic and attendance issues, and help families get involved in their child's education, making referrals for social service needs, and providing workshops for parents.
