Spelling Fitness

Purpose: To provide a movement-based strategy for learning and practicing spelling words

Materials: Spelling Fitness Sheet; a Spelling Vocabulary List, Word Wall List (if you can get one from your teacher), or start with your own name and names of family members.

Description: Review the list of spelling/vocabulary/word wall words that you might have and choose a word and then use the Spelling Fitness Sheet to decode the word and perform the exercise that matches the correct letter in the spelling of the word.

Super Kid Workout Video - 16 Minutes

Purpose: To increase overall physical fitness with a focus on the health-related fitness components of cardio-respiratory endurance; muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility.

Materials: Child Friendly Workout Video-***Please always monitor all online video use

Description: This is a video-based fitness activity that increases health related concepts. Warm-up phase, to flexibility, muscular strength and endurance. Please set your own pace. Don't feel the need to go as fast as the trainer. Skill and Correct Form is the goal. Try as many as you can do and set your speed to feel comfortable while getting a good workout.


The Adventures of Mr. Toss

Purpose: To provide students with underhand toss/catch activities that develop hand-eye coordination

Equipment Needed: Story: The Adventures of Mr. Toss, Something Soft to Use as an Indoor Ball (Bean Bag, Soft Type of Ball, Rolled Up Socks, Small Stuffed Animal)

Description: This story has a magic word and students have to listen closely to hear it

  • The magic word is TOSS

  • As the story is read, whenever the word “TOSS” is said, the students toss and catch their piece of equipment.

  • Remember the following tossing and catching tips:

    • Keep tosses within arms reach

    • Keep eyes on the ball

    • Catch with hands and not the body

Cup Toss & Catch

Purpose: To provide students with underhand toss/catch activities that develop hand-eye coordination

Equipment Needed: Plastic Cups, Something Soft to Use as an Indoor Ball (Bean Bag, Soft Type of Ball, Rolled Up Socks, Small Stuffed Animal)

Description: Use a Plastic Cup as a "Scoop" and toss your ball to yourself or back and forth with a partner. Have fun!
