Black-Eyed Susan Nominees 2023-2024

Learn About the Program

Check out this presentation to learn more about the Black-Eyed Susan Reading Program. You can also stop by the library and chat with Ms. Friedman & Ms. Bowens or browse our display to see the books for yourself!

How To Participate:

Students must read a minimum of 3 Black Eyed Susan books in one of the categories (chapter books, graphic novels or high school selections) to earn a certificate and to vote for their favorite. Students who meet the requirements will be invited to a dessert-themed voting party in April.

For more information about the state program visit https://www.maslmd.org/black-eyed-susan-award.

Note: Students can read more than 3 BES books across the 3 categories-the student who reads the most BES books receives special recognition. Check out our bookmarks in the library to help keep track!

Use the links below to see the list of books in each category. We have almost every book in the Baker library, so stop by and checkout our dedicated shelves! If you can't get the book you want right away in print, try searching in SORA or visit the Damascus Public Library.

Want to take on this challenge? Sign up for the Black-Eyed Susan Reading Club using the link here. Ms. Friedman will email you reminders and invite you to the voting party later this year. Excited to read with you!
