MCPS has eliminated final exams from all high school courses, and has instituted a final 'project', at the discretion of the teacher, instead. In Physics 1, all students will be required to choose an Olympic Sport to analyze using the cumulative concepts of Newtonian mechanics covered in this course.
Below are the rubrics for reference throughout the course.
The attached is an example of student work on this project. It is not perfect, but was very well done and models well the sort of assumptions, estimations, and calculations that must be performed.
This project also demonstrates that an interested student can analyze a sport well, even if it is not as conventional (or easy to do) as football!
