CHECK BACK ON WEDNESDAYS FOR WEEKLY UPDATES

Anchor Chart 1: We Are Super Readers

These are the reading "Super Powers" that your child is learning to use in our classroom.

Your child will be reading more and more books beginning in January.

We have had a wonderful time getting to know each other last week! Here are just a few of the things we did…

Each morning begins with checking and hanging up our backpacks, returning our Take-Home folders, placing our lunch stick in the “school” or “home” container, making a circle in our group area, and listening to morning announcements. We are getting quicker at completing these tasks more independently each day, which is very exciting!

Following this, we begin our Morning Meeting. Each meeting begins with us saying “Good Morning, (classmate’s name)” using a loud and clear voice, eye contact, and a handshake. Our greetings are also helping us learn our right hand from our left hand. The second component of our morning meeting is sharing. Last week students had opportunities to share what they placed inside their brown paper bag. Sharing these objects helped us get to know each other. Our Bridges in Mathematics program features a Number Corner, which has now become the final part of our meeting. Please read the special Bridges in Mathematics newsletter to find out more about this great program!

This week we will learn that WE ARE READERS! We will begin to discuss how a reader is someone who walks through the world on a lookout for something to read. Students will read words on objects in our classroom and then they will read words on signs from our environment. You can help your child practice this at home too. The next time you are on a walk or in the car, point out familiar signs and have your child use these strategies that we are practicing in class: I can look; I can think; I can read; I can learn.
