Brittany Carl (74-37, 52-20) enters her fifth season as the Cardinals’ varsity head coach in 2025. She first joined the Middleton program as a varsity assistant during the 2018-19 campaign.
In 2024, the Cards (18-10, 13-3) made their deepest postseason run in recent memory, reaching the WIAA Sectional Final for the first time since 2009. Their 2nd-place finish in the BIG 8 Conference is the Cards' best since taking the crown in 2015, while the team's four 1st Team All BIG 8 Conference honorees tied for most in a season in Middleton program history.
In her inaugural 2021 campaign, Carl led the Cards to a number of program milestones. Middleton (21-6, 14-4) recorded its first 20-win season since 2007, knocking off three top-10 teams and climbing as high as #3 in the WFSCA/WisSports Coaches' Poll.
As a student-athlete, Carl enjoyed an illustrious collegiate career at NCAA Division I Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ. A four-year starter at shortstop for the Pirates, Carl earned both All-BIG EAST and Capital One Academic All-America accolades, and remains ranked in the top-10 in program history in a number of key offensive categories. To cap her impressive career, Carl was awarded the BIG EAST Sport Excellence Award, as well as the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship – an honor given to only 29 female and 29 male spring sport student-athletes across all three NCAA divisions. In 2013, Seton Hall University recognized Carl as both its Scholar Athlete of the Year and its Most Valuable Pirate, the latter of which recognizes a senior student-athlete who displays leadership, dedication, and exemplary contributions on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. As a senior, Carl was also endorsed as one of Seton Hall University’s candidates for the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship.
Upon graduating from The Hall in 2013, Carl turned her sights to coaching, ultimately hoping to share her experience and passion for the game with the next generation of softball players. She has led teams and instructed athletes all over the country, across various age and skill levels.
By day, Carl leads the Data Intelligence practice at Compeer Financial in Madison, WI.

On the administrative side, Hammer also served as Softball Coordinator – overseeing both recreational and travel softball – for six years in the Hempfield (PA) school district. In that role, he focused on youth player engagement and development in conjunction with the Hempfield High School softball program. For two years, Hammer also acted as Recruiting Coordinator for the Delco Diamonds 18U Gold team, where he assisted student-athletes in the collegiate recruiting process.
Away from the diamond, Hammer is the Director of Corporate Sustainability for Charter Next Generation Films, headquartered in Milton, WI.
