The Middleton High School World Languages Department is committed to educating our students to be global citizens who demonstrate intercultural competence, problem-solving abilities, and communication skills to meet the challenges of an increasingly interconnected world. World Language courses are open to all students. While learning another language, students will improve their skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening while gaining new insights into their own language and culture. For those students who are college-bound, our level 5 and 6 courses offer students the opportunity to earn college credits.
The MCPASD Seal of Biliteracy is a Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction approved program which recognizes students who have demonstrated advanced achievement in bilingualism, biliteracy, and sociocultural competence in two or more languages. Students pursuing the Seal of Biliteracy in one of the four languages taught at MHS should continue through advanced levels of the language.
The Community Interpreter Certificate (CIC) is a 2 year college-level course sequence at Viterbo University that trains bilingual individuals (Spanish) to interpret in the community and professionally. Acceptance into the CIC program is based on a successful application, interview, and an entrance exam. It follows ECCP application deadlines.

Students in German 1/2 will use sounds, rhythms, intonations and vocabulary to communicate in German. Topics of self and community including home, family, school, city and work will be covered throughout this course. The students will broaden their language skills through a wide range of vocabulary and language structures using a variety of learning methods including dialogues, German music, storytelling and exploration of the German speaking world.
This is an accelerated course that combines material from German Levels 1 and 2 and is recommended for students seeking an accelerated German language learning experience or were advised to retake German 2. This course will have a two-year rotating curriculum, therefore students can take this course two years in a row if students feel they need more practice and review before continuing on to German 3.
