Wrestling
5th - 8th Grade
Season: Mid October to December
Welcome to the 2023-24 GCMS wrestling season. We are glad that you have decided to join the team. Over the course of the season, you will learn the basics of wrestling, experience competition (Dual meets and tournaments), and have a lot of fun.
“Once you have wrestled, everything else in life is easy.”
Dan Gable-Olympic Champion
Students will be taught wrestling techniques appropriate to their skill level through demonstrations, games, drills, and live matches. Wrestlers will compete in multiple dual meets and tournaments throughout the season. The first day of practice will be on October 9th in the small gym.
Wrestling is an interscholastic sport for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders with the 5th graders participating as an intramural (5th graders do not wrestle at meets unless agreed upon by both schools). Wrestling will run from October 9th thru December with the last dual meet being on Monday December 18th. Student athletes must have a current physical on file to participate. There will be no practice on days the school is closed.
Practice is mandatory, unless communicated to the coach. Attendance will be taken daily, and unexcused absences could result in missed competitions and dismissal from the team in extreme cases.
Please make sure that you have a fresh change of clothes to wear for practice. This helps keep the mats clean.
Wrestling shoes are recommended. If you do not have any, the Middleton Area Wrestling Club may be able to provide some. No Street shoes are allowed on the mats at practice.
At the end of practice, all wrestlers MUST help roll up and put away mats, unless they have communicated with the coach that they need to leave early.
