Welcome to AP Statistics. This outline will provide you with a brief overview of this course & what is expected of you.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

AP Statistics is the high school equivalent of a one semester, introductory college statistics course. In this course, students develop strategies for collecting, organizing, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. Students will develop their understanding of how to design, administer, and tabulate results from surveys and experiments. Probability and simulations aid students in constructing models for chance phenomena. Sampling distributions provide the logical structure for confidence intervals and hypothesis tests. To develop effective statistical communication skills, students develop their understanding of how to give written and oral analyses of real data.

AP Statistics can be broken down into four main themes:

• Cellphones – please keep them put away unless told otherwise
• Food & Beverages – are OK as long as you clean up after yourself
• Class Environment – be respectful / clean up after yourself
• Absences
• It is your responsibility make up what you have missed. For missed tests & quizzes, talk with me about making them up ASAP!
• If you are absent the day before a previously announced test or quiz, you will still need to take the test or quiz that day.

THERE IS HELP…………..

There will be support sessions available that cover specific learning topics/targets. These sessions will be scheduled typically during ASR blocks & will provide additional opportunities to review both mastery (older) & developing (newer) topics.

MATERIALS

Every day for class you will need the following materials:

• Textbook
• Notebook
• Binder w/ Loose-Leaf
• Pencils & Pens
• Graph Paper
• Graphing Calculator (TI-84 Plus CE is recommended)

GRADES

Semester grades will be a weighted average as follows:

Semester 1: 90% Semester Work + 10% Semester Exam

Semester 2: 90% Semester Work + 10% Semester Project

SEMESTER GRADE BREAKDOWN

Individual Assessments (90%):

• Summative will consist of Free Response Questions on the Chapter Tests
• Prepare yourself for the tests!

Practice (10%):

• Group Quizzes - End of the Chapter & Take-Home
• Multiple Choice Section on Chapter Tests
• Projects will be given from time to time.

Additional Practice Assignments

• There are many options for students to practice learning objectives prior to completing assessments. These can include: section exercises, chapter reviews, practice tests, online quizzes, FRAPPYs, ASR help sessions, electronic video clips, etc. Students should select which opportunities best meet their needs for each unit of study. Practice assignments will be documented but not graded for accuracy.

B = 3.0 - 2.9

C+ = 2.7

D- = 2.0

F = 1.9 - 1.0
