I. SENIOR PROJECTS--
In the next month, be sure to complete the following--
*If you have not completed your research paper, complete it and have it ready to give to me when we return to school.
*Finish completing your portfolio.
*Write your presentation speech and start practicing it.
Your speech should have a conversational tone. Tell your Senior Project story. You should begin with a hook—something to catch your audience’s attention. It could be a question, a quotation, a story, etc. After that, tell why you chose your topic, who your mentor was, relate any problems that you had to overcome (like weather issues). What successes did you experience? If you were to select a topic again, would you choose the same one? How have you grown as a student? Has your project created a new passion for you? Has it given you an opportunity to earn some extra income? As you conclude your, presentation, come full circle (like I encourage you to do in your essays). This is the point where you make a profound statement—something insightful that the project has taught you. Be positive. Once again, you can use a quote from a famous person...or perhaps your mentor.
Don’t STRESS about this. Your evaluators will be your administrators and teachers. They want your efforts and hard work to be rewarded.
II. Covid-19 Journal—THIS WILL BE PART OF YOUR JSCC GRADE
I want you to start keeping a journal. Make daily entries. Tell me how you are feeling. Identify any fears that you have. Let me know how you are spending your days. When we started your senior year with The Glass Menagerie, we discussed the theme—the fragility of life. What has the virus taught you about that?
III. FINAL ESSAY—THIS IS PART OF JSCC GRADE, TOO.
As Americans fight this unseen, deadly enemy, what have you learned about the AMERICAN SPIRIT? What have you observed about the way our nation has come together? How have you been changed by recent events? How do you view our nation and the world now?
STAY SAFE…
"To laugh often and much;
to win the respect of intelligent people
and affection of children; to earn the
appreciation of honest critics and endure
the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best
in others; to leave the world a bit better; whether by a healthy child,
a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even
one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded."
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Somebody has to go polish the stars
They're looking a little bit dull.
Somebody has to go polish the stars,
For the eagles and starlings and gulls
Have all been complaining they're tarnished and worn,
They say they want new ones we cannot afford.
So please get your rags
And your polishing jars,
Somebody has to go polish the stars.
-Shel Silverstein, A Light in the Attic
