Hello Walker Elementary Families!
We are so excited for our Walker Elementary Family Traditions Celebration on Tuesday, September 24th from 6-7pm. This event is designed for Walker families and staff to share their culture, traditions, and food with one another! Come see the wonderful blend of customs that make up our unique school family. We look forward to seeing you as an attendee or as a presenter, hosting a table!
If you would like to host a table: Table set up begins at 4:00. We invite student’s families to bring items and/or special food from their family’s culture or tradition to share with others. This is not meant to be a meal, but rather a sample taste. Some examples may be baklava, enchiladas, nahari, the cookies you make and eat on family pajama night, or any recipe that is meaningful to you. Tables will be set up for you, and you will be able to decorate an area of your table with information posters or other items that tell the story of your family or culture. Your family may want to dress in clothing that represents your culture or traditions.
The following are tips which may help you in preparation for this exciting evening:
Arrive at the gym doors of the school with any display/decorations/cultural artifacts, traditional clothing, food tasting samples, etc.
Tables will already be set up for you, and you will be able to decorate your table with information/posters or other items that tell the story of your family or culture.
Each table must have an adult available at all times with their child to share information and answer questions.
If you are bringing food, please bring utensils and sample/tasting cups with you. Please remember this is a small sample.
There will not be outlets available or extension cords for you to use to operate small appliances.
If you will be joining as an attendee: We will see you Tuesday, September 24th at 5pm for our 4th grade program and 6pm for the celebration!
We need to gather information about how many families would like to participate in sharing cultural information and food tasting. Please fill out the Google form below as soon as possible if you will be needing a table for a display. For planning purposes, there will not be outlets available or extension cords for you to use to operate small appliances. The deadline for families to fill out the Google participation form if you need a table for display for the Walker Family Traditions Celebration is Friday, September 20th.
We hope to have a lot of participation and are looking forward to a fun opportunity to learn more about our students and our school community!
