Reading promotes connections across cultures. Connecting allows people to appreciate the unique qualities that add “spice” to the beautiful melting pot that is our community and shared planet.
Frazier students are encouraged to celebrate literacy and diversity by participating in our #ReadYourWorld challenge. We host this challenge throughout the months of January and February in honor of Multicultural Children’s Book Day (January 26) and World Read Aloud Day (February 7).
Students are encouraged to read diverse books and “to select books that they can see themselves reflected in, as well as books that allow readers to see a world or character that might be different than them,” (NEA, 2021). This challenge includes books about another culture/continent, books written by a diverse author, and books with diverse characters and/or settings.
How to participate:
Pick up a Passport Reading Log in the Frazier Learning Commons
Read 1 book that represents each continent
Ask Mrs. Stallbaumer or Mrs. Dusek to stamp your passport after each book you read
Complete the Passport Reading Log.
Rate each book (on the back of the Passport Reading Log)
Students who complete the challenge will have their name announced on morning announcements and their picture featured in our Reading Hall of Fame.
Students may read print and/or digital books to complete the challenge. The Frazier Library has many options. Books your teacher reads in class may also be used to complete this challenge. Students may complete the challenge as many times as they like during the months of January and February
