Learning Commons Policies
When can I visit the Learning Commons?
At the beginning of the year, we operate on a hybrid fixed and flexible schedule to allow Mrs. Stallbaumer the opportunity to teach lessons on various topics, such as print and media literacy, STEAM, book care, circulation and searching for books, technology, and digital citizenship.
By mid-September, 2nd-5th grade students will move to a flexible schedule. Students may come at their point of need during the day. STC, FAC, Kindergarten, and 1st grade students will continue to visit as a whole class until Mrs. Stallbaumer and their teachers determine they are ready to visit the library flexibly.
When is the library closed?
We are currently closed before school because Mrs. Stallbaumer is the sponsor of Gator Talk, during Mrs. Stallbaumer’s lunch, for occasional meetings, to support events, and occasionally to support staff during the school day with various needs. The library is closed on Tuesdays, as Mrs. Stallbaumer supports teachers during their planning period. Ms. Stallbaumer is working on a plan to open the library before school starting in October.
How many books may I check out?
Checkout limits are subject to change based on student needs. All students will checkout one book at the beginning of the year. When 2nd-5th grade students learn their ID number, they will be able to checkout an additional book.
Kindergarten students = one book
1st graders = one books
2nd graders = two books
3rd = two books
4th & 5th graders = three books
eBooks = two on Follett Shelf
Parents = five items for two weeks.
When are books due?
Books are checked out for two weeks. Please promptly return books you have finished since others may be waiting to read them.
Please return reading challenge books, such as Bee Amazing and Read Your World books after one week due to high demand and limited quantities.
Students are welcome to keep books longer than two weeks, but please come to the Learning Commons to renew items so books won’t be marked overdue or become lost.
Fines are NOT charged for overdue items.
What happens if an item from the library is damaged or lost?
Students will be asked to remit payment for any damage that cannot be repaired, for books that have liquid or food damage, and for books that are lost.
For the health and safety of our patrons, we are unable to return books with water or any form of liquid damage to our collection. Even when thoroughly dried, these books grow mold over time which will spread to other books.
How do I remit payment?
Fines will be added to your student's My Bucks Account and may be paid online. To pay for this lost or damaged library book, please go to https://www.myschoolbucks.com/ or use the MySchoolBucks mobile app. Register for a free account if you have not done so previously.
You are also able to remit payment in the form of cash or check made out to Frazier Elementary. Please visit the Learning Commons for in-person payments. Please note, credit card payments must be maid online and we are unable to make change for cash payments.
Thank you for your support in maintaining our library resources.
Can I purchase a replacement on Amazon or at a bookstore? No.
Parents are often shocked with the cost to replace library books. It is important to know that we do not accept used or new copies in place of the replacement cost. Instead, we provide parents the cost we pay our vendor to replace the book. Per MISD guidelines book guidelines, we must replace the book with the EXACT ISBN number. Copies not already in our catalog may not be added per district policy.
When we purchase a book from our vendor, our cost includes public read aloud rights. Additionally, most of our books are purchased with a lifetime vendor warranty to make them more durable for heavy use. And, we remit payment to the vendor for call number, genre, and barcode labels. We pay for MARC records (allows books to be searched online) for every book in our collection.
However, we do not pass these additional charges on to the student. We only charge the cost of the book replacement from our vendor
