Course Content
In 8th grade writing, students develop proficiency in narrative, expository, research, and argumentative writing aligned with Georgia Standards of Excellence. They craft narrative texts with well-structured sequences, vivid descriptions, and clear event development. In expository writing, students explain concepts or ideas clearly using relevant evidence and logical organization. They conduct research by gathering, evaluating, and synthesizing information from multiple credible sources, integrating quotations and citations appropriately. Argumentative writing emphasizes constructing and defending claims with valid reasoning, supporting evidence, and addressing opposing viewpoints. Throughout all writing types, students refine grammar, usage, and conventions to produce clear, coherent, and polished texts for academic and real-world purposes.
Course rules for us of AI:
Teacher permission is required prior to each assignment and/or use of AI.
Georgia middle schools encourage responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools to enhance student learning and creativity. AI may be used to support research, writing, problem-solving, and personalized learning under teacher supervision. Students must use AI tools as a complement to their own thinking and effort, ensuring academic integrity and original work. Educators guide students to critically evaluate AI-generated content, properly cite sources, and understand the limitations of AI technology. All AI use aligns with district policies and Georgia state regulations to promote safe, equitable, and effective learning environments.
