7th Grade Life Science

Class overview

Seventh Grade Life Science is a continuation of sixth grade Earth Science, we are continuing our discovery of what makes life.  This year we will focus on skills like organization through our Interactive Notebooks.  Students will be expected to keep up with their notes and class papers in their Interactive Notebooks (INB) throughout the year.  We will have one INB, it needs to be college ruled.  INBs will be graded at the end of each Unit for a formative test grade.

Seventh Grade Life Science is considered a beginner course that introduces many biological concepts from the cell to tissues to organs and systems of those organs.  We will classify types of animals (diversity of living organisms, including genetics), as well as discuss the types of biomes (ecosystems) the animals live in throughout the earth.  Students will use models to help observe and understand many of the systems we will be studying such as cells, tissues, organs, and so on. Students will be able to explain the cycling of matter and energy within an ecosystem.  Students will learn basic scientific principles needed to evaluate and record observations scientists make including using charts and graphs to explain relationships in the data collected/observed.   See the Georgia Standards of Excellence page for all the standards and concepts covered.

Finally, to personalize Life Science this year, students will be encouraged to observe our local environment including plants, insects, and animal life, as well as natural changing of our environment as the seasons change.

About the Teacher:

Hello!  Welcome to 7th Grade Life Science.  My name is Mrs. Carole Amason.

I have been teaching 13 years. I have a masters from Georgia Southern University in Instruction and Accomplished Teaching and a bachelors from College of Coastal Georgia in middle grades education.

I live here in McIntosh County.  I have been married to Andy Amason for 36 years.  I have two grown children who are married, Andrew (and Lauren) and Meredith (and Matthew).  I have five grandchildren!  I also have several cats and one dog named Sarge.

I love college football, kayaking, and birding.  I love being outside to enjoy this wonderful place we live.

I am excited to bring Life Science alive as we learn together! We will learn about our environment, our bodies, and all living creatures.   We will learn about how to positively impact our environment and help us to become better stewards of McIntosh County.

I look forward to getting to know you all!

My Mission to You:

As the teacher, it is my mission for every student who is in my class to meet and exceed seventh grade GMAS expectations for success.   Seventh grade is an important step in preparing you for high school.  The policies and procedures in my classroom are in place to facilitate a successful school year.
