Marengo Percussion

Percussionists will be expected to:

• Attend all performances, competitions, football games, and rehearsal, except in the event of:

  • Family Emergency

  • Illness

  • Injury

  • If you cannot make it, I expect to be notified within the same day. If not, the absence will be unexcused.

• Come to all of the events listed above with each of the following items:

  • PRINTED music

  • something to write with

  • hearing protection

  • sticks/mallets (these will be provided by the school)

  • a practice pad (these can be provided by the school if needed)

• Bring the following to each outdoor rehearsal

  • Water 

  • Bug spray 

  • Sunscreen

• By the time each rehearsal starts or resumes:

  • Be at their drum, ready to play, waiting patiently

  • Have everything listed above ready to go

  • Have their assignment complete if there was one

• Not harass other students (I will allow teasing so long as the other student is okay with it).

• Not be eating or chewing gum during rehearsal (I have misophonia)

• Not talk about off topic things until we are on break.

• Not make me add more to this list! ;)

Student Behavior will not be graded, but will be a BIG factor in audition results.

The policy is: We can have as much fun as we want, so long as the work is done and we are productive!

In a given year, I may receive more students than there are drums, so auditions are necessary.

Auditions can be intimidating and stressful, but please do not take the results of the audition personally. Your fellow students are not against you, they are for themselves. Even if you do not make it despite your best efforts, you have still improved as a musician, and that's what's most important!

The following spots are available on Drumline:

• 3 spots for Snare Drum

• 4 spots for Bass Drum

• 2 spots for Tenor Drums

Your likelihood to get a spot depends on the following things:

• Your put-together-ness. Were you reading announcements and messages? Doing your assignments and doing them on time? Showing Up? Bringing all your stuff to rehearsal? Abiding by the expectations listed above?

• Your ability to play everything in the Marengo Percussion Packet, except for the M+ cadence.

• RSVPing for auditions prior to audition date. Must be done EVERY YEAR

• Signing up to percussion prior to audition date. Must be done EVERY YEAR

The materials folder contains:

• Assignments (Listed in the folder as "Chops Challenge")

• Show music

• The Marengo Percussion Packet

There are a total of 5 assignments, due on the following dates each season:

• The 30th of August

• The 15th and 30th of September

• The 15th and 30th of October

Assignments are not graded but WILL affect audition results.
