Drop Policy

All students have 2 weeks to try a class before they are committed for the full  TERM.  If a family withdraws after 3 or more weeks of class, they are responsible for 50% of the remaining balance for the TERM as long as the studio is open and running in-person classes.

Registration fees and costume fees are non-refundable.

If a student needs to withdraw due to severe injury, illness, debilitating family circumstance, or home relocation, parents must submit a Doctor's note or other reason for withdrawal to Director, Shelagh McGovern  for review on a case-by-case basis.

Attendance

Regular attendance is expected from each dancer.  Tuition is due whether you attend class or not.

here are no refunds for classes that were canceled by the director due to scheduling conflicts, inclement weather or other issues out of our control.  We will make an attempt to make up the time when possible by extending class times, or offering a special make up class.  If you can’t make the rescheduled dates, you may drop into a similar class that is offered throughout the week at any of the studios, verify with your instructor  as to which class would be appropriate.

Occasionally there are free sessions as well as  special workshops offered which can act as your make up day, you must follow the regular sign up requests for these and let the instructor know you are using this for a make up.  Not all workshops will be able to be used as a make up day and this can be clarified with  Shelagh

Classes that are missed because of your schedule/choice can be made up but will not be considered “excused”.  Any unexcused make up classes will cost $25..00.

Performance & Competitions (also called feis/feile)  are an important part of the  Irish dance experience and is considered a form of practice.  Performances and Competitions  will at times be scheduled on the same day or time as your class.  That lesson will not be considered a missed lesson or excused absence if you choose not to perform or compete.

Social Media

Please make sure to follow and like our social media pages and don't forget to join the Parents Facebook Group, which is  a great way to stay on top of all things MID related.  We are an active dance group with lots of events and competitions and opportunities to really hone your Irish dance schools.   It is also a good way to connect with your dance family.

Levels

Class levels are defined by a dancer's ability to perform the requisite skill appropriate to that level, not necessarily by the number of years of experience.  Practice outside of class is highly recommended in order to make studio instruction time more beneficial...and therefore more fun

Beginner

Our beginner classes introduce dancers ages 6 - 17  to Irish Dancing.   Concepts and skills taught  include: counting the music, basic footwork, rhythm and music, posture, easy Reel steps, and a basic Céilí dance.  Each dancer is unique and we all have different learning styles and capabilities but in general,  dancers can expect to spend at least 1 - 2 years at this level.

Bun Grad

Our Bunghrád dancers are categorized as beginner level dancers.  At this level, concepts and skills covered include: basic footwork, rhythm and music, posture as well as the Bun Grad  Reel, Slip Jig, Single Jig, and Light Jig steps, along with basic Céilí dances.

Ullmhuchan (ool - va - chan)

Our Ullmhuchan  dancers are categorized as level two dancers.  At this level, we continue to drill basic skills which include: basic footwork, rhythm and music, posture as well as a few new “tricks”  as well as the  Ulllmuhchan Reel, Slip Jig, Single Jig, and Light Jig, Treble Jig and Hornpipe steps, along with basic Céilí dances, traditional and contemporary set dances.

Mean Grad

Our Mean Grad  dancers are categorized as level three dancers.  At this level, we continue to drill basic skills which include: basic footwork, rhythm and music, posture as well as “tricks”, jumps and other advanced skills including the Mean Grad  Reel, Slip Jig, Single Jig, and Light Jig, Treble Jig and Hornpipe steps, along with basic Céilí dances and traditional and contemporary set dances.

Ard  Grad

Our Ard Grad  dancers are categorized as level four or Preliminary Champion  dancers.  At this level, we continue to build on  skills which include: basic footwork, rhythm and music, posture as well as “tricks”, jumps and other advanced skills.  Dancers will also learn Ard  Grad  Reel, Slip Jig, Single Jig, and Light Jig, Treble Jig and Hornpipe steps, along with basic Céilí dances, traditional and contemporary set dances.

Craobh Grad

Our Craobh  Grad  dancers are categorized as level five or Open Champion dancers.  At this level, we continue to drill basic skills which include: basic footwork, rhythm and music, posture as well as “tricks”, jumps and other advanced skills. Dancers will learn Craobh  Grad  Reel, Slip Jig, Single Jig, and Light Jig, Treble Jig and Hornpipe steps, along with basic Céilí dances, traditional and contemporary set dances.  Dancers at this level can be asked to dance in with different bands and venues on a more professional level.

How do I move through the Levels?
Dancers level up by competing at different Fesianna/Feile (Irish dance competitions) or through Dancer Evaluations which are offered at the end of each term.  Info about competitions can be found HERE
