This session offers a foundation for artificial intelligence and its connection to teaching and learning. We aim to demystify AI and make it accessible for educational purposes. We'll start with the ABCs of AI, introduce some practical skills and tools, begin the discovery of how AI is reshaping various aspects of society and what that means for the future of education, and discuss the importance of AI literacy for students and how it prepares them for an AI-embedded future. Whether you're a novice or have some familiarity with AI, this session will set you up for a successful journey.

ROOM 12-127 - Kara Ball - Grounding AI Exploration: From Fundamentals to Practical Applications:
Join us for a comprehensive session diving into the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education. We'll start by establishing a solid foundation through a grounding session, where we'll delve into the historical significance of AI in our daily lives. Addressing common concerns and misconceptions, fostering a balanced perspective on its role in education. During this session attendees will gain essential knowledge about AI, demystifying terminology and key concepts. We'll explore the rationale behind integrating AI into the classroom and encourage an open approach to its implementation, moving beyond initial reactions to embrace its potential benefits. In the second half of this session participants will engage in hands-on exploration with ChatGPT. This interactive workshop focuses on enhancing familiarity and proficiency with ChatGPT through practical exercises. Attendees will discover how ChatGPT can be applied as a teaching aid in classroom settings and to streamline various professional tasks. By the end of the session, participants will have learned strategies for incorporating ChatGPT into their teaching practices and optimizing its use for everyday challenges in an educational context.

As generative AI gains traction across the world and in our schools, clear policies are needed to guide students and teachers on how to use these technologies ethically and effectively. This workshop takes participants through the full process of developing AI guidelines and adoption strategies tailored to their institution's needs. This session focuses on building a GenAI roadmap that focuses on gathering stakeholder feedback, establishing cross-functional teams, addressing academic integrity and data privacy concerns, ensuring equitable access and AI literacy development, and vetting AI tools. Participants will leave with an adoption roadmap, exemplar district/school guidelines, and best practices to guide this important work.

In this immersive session, participants will learn newly-discovered AI-centric tactics and strategies that will revolutionize the way special education teachers collect and analyze progress monitoring data for their students with IEPs. This hands-on session will break attendees into groups for a comparative exercise that challenges educators to collect and analyze progress monitoring data for fictitious students through both traditional and AI-enhanced methods of assessing student progress relative to IEP goals. The new AI-driven methodologies introduced in this session – which focus on efficiency, accuracy, and the capacity to identify and implement individualized educational strategies – will showcase the impact of AI on enhancing student outcomes and educator efficiency and reshape the future of special education.

Generative AI has provided students with powerful new capabilities, prompting a need to rethink assessment practices. This session reframes mastery, assessment, and cheating to harness AI's potential while cultivating vital skills for the future workforce. In this session, we will explore AI for Education's AI Assessment Continuum and discuss how to create AI-resistant assignments emphasizing process, feedback, and real-world applications. We will also provide best practices for integrating generative AI into instructional practice and assessments to drive student critical thinking and other 21st century skills.

Ohio recently released an AI Toolkit for Ohio educators to consider when adopting policies regarding Artificial Intelligence. This session will discuss the guidance as well as legal issues to consider when integrating AI into the classroom.
