The Macoupin Center for the Developmentally Disabled
Where friends become FAMILY.
ABOUT OUR ORGANIZATION
Macoupin Center for the Developmentally Disabled is a day learning center that serves adults with intellectual disabilities in Macoupin County and surrounding areas. We strive to help our individuals achieve a more fulfilling life through fostering personal autonomy while nurturing a safe and welcoming community among their peers.
We are united in our dedication to everyone's rights
Serving Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities for over 65 years!
In 1956, MCDD was founded by Roy Skeen, Charles Gerber, Don Keohane and Elmer Gross to address the noticeable lack of accessible services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities living in rural America. Initially housed at the historic Girl Scout Little House in Carlinville, IL, the Center has since relocated twice before expanding and opening the doors to our own location in 1983.
Throughout the years, MCDD has remained persistently committed to bridging the increasing gap that still exists in available services for individuals with IDD. We take pride in being able to provide a safe and empowering environment where our students can thrive. Our Center offers transportation, food security, and uniquely tailored day learning services where our students can expand their life skills, social skills, and academic skills.
Our Story
MCDD is dedicated to helping adults with IDD find a sense of belonging and providing them with a personalized continuing education that supports them in all their unique endeavors throughout their adult life.
Our Mission
Our Mission at MCDD is to make a positive and lasting impact in the lives of developmentally disabled adults by providing an empowering environment built on education, compassion, and dignity.
Our Vision
Our Vision is to help adults with developmental disabilities throughout the Macoupin and surrounding counties retain and expand their social skills, life skills, and academic skills.
