What Do I Wear?

The Guide to What to Wear to a Performance

Throughout the year students will be performing in different concert attire.  What they wear for a performance will depend on the location and how formal the venue/performance is. Fore example, if we are playing outside for a parade we would go with the music shirt and jeans. If we are performing for UIL Concert we would be in Formal Concert Attire. This is a guide to help parents and students understand what clothing we are asking the students to wear to a performance.

Formal Concert Attire

We typically wear this in the spring around Concert contest season. If your student is in the high school band they will be required to have these items if they are going to participate in the Concert Competition or Pre-Contest Concerts. The basic rules are:

Gentlemen: Black dress pants, white long sleeve button-down collared dress shirt. Black belt and black dress shoes (marching shoes are acceptable)…and of course LONG BLACK SOCKS!

Girls: Black dress pants or black long skirt/dress down to the ankles and White dress shirt or blouse. Black belt (if worn) and black dress shoes…and of course LONG BLACK SOCKS (if worn)! Basically,

These are NOT acceptable for Formal Concert Attire:
sandals/flip-flops, short skirts, black jeans, leggings or yoga pants

Examples:

Formal Concert Attire Shoes

Women's Flats

Women's Heel

Men's Standard Dress Shoe

Business Casual/Sunday's Best

Business Casual concert attire is typically worn at the end of semesters. There is a concert right before Winter Break and a concert at the end of the year where students will wear "Business Casual" or "Sunday's Best" attire. They  can also use this for performing solos or performances away from school activities. Students have more flexibility in what they wear but there are some ground rules:

Band Shirt and Jeans

This is mostly used near the end of the year or outside performances. Most parades will utilize this dress style. Beginners will be asked to wear a Red Shirt and Jeans for these performances.
