The Process
This archive was established to make available to the general public a series of Civil War letters acquired by Cascade Middle School. The letters featured in the Union Soldier Collection, as well as the Confederate Soldier Collection, were purchased through funding provided by the Jack Eggers Memorial Grant. The Indiana Collection consists primarily of a series of letters borrowed from the Hendricks County Historical Museum, individuals in the community, and a few that were purchased with grant money. In addition to the museum, the Danville Public Library has proven to be an invaluable partner, providing resources, equipment, and expertise to help make this archive possible.
In 2016, our project was selected to be an official Indiana Bicentennial Legacy Project. We hope that through our project, we can help to share the stories of Indiana soldiers who fought in the Civil War.
In the year 2019, due to restrictions placed on different websites that the students could access, we decided to move our archive from Weebly to Google Sites. The original site can be found here.
