JAG KY is an affiliate of Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG), www.jag.org, a national non-profit organization dedicated to reconnecting students academically by helping them overcome barriers to graduation and helping them transition into postsecondary education, the workforce or the military after graduation.
JAG's competency-based curriculum educates students in areas of career development, job attainment and retention, leadership, financial literacy and numerous other life skills, all of which enhance a student’s employability and likelihood of success upon graduation.
Congratulations to Reidland Elementary for being a Gold Family Friendly certified school for the second year. It was mentioned that RES is the standard by which all schools are judged. Super proud. Awesome job, Anne!
We want to thank the Prichard Committee President/CEO Brigitte Blom @brigitteblom_ky for visiting our district and community. It was a wonderful two days of learning about the coordination of existing community services to support students, improve learning outcomes, and recover learning losses through the “community schools” framework.
WHAT ARE COMMUNITY SCHOOLS?
An evidence-based strategy to advance equity and reduce barriers to learning by providing the services needed to support student and family well-being. Through trusting relationships and well-coordinated supports, community schools ensure that students receive the health, social service, and learning opportunities they need to be successful.
We are one (1) of twenty (20) districts across the state awarded with this grant. Our district is responsible for two schools: McCracken County High School and Reidland Elementary School.
THE FOUR PILLARS
STRENGTHEN THE PILLARS
The goal is to identify three pipelines that we do well, then improve in 2 areas as part of our Action Plan
WHAT'S HAPPENED SO FAR
We want to thank the Chamber of Commerce for hosting us in the Paducah Bank Conference Room. Our first meeting was a success with standing room only. The purpose of the meeting was to introduce the grant and the key players and begin the process of creating a vision. We asked four important questions to improve our community, and you have the same opportunity using the QR code below.
The UK Extension office hosted our second meeting in their beautiful new facility on Holt Road. There was another great turnout, and principals and Family Resource Directors from each school shared their unique stories. To read their stories, click on the schools above.
The next step is working with each school to create an Action Plan.
