Started in 2021, Wolves Racing students have competed in the evGrand Prix. A racing series where students build their own electric go karts and compete against other high schools. The race features ‘test and tune’ events where students interact with other teams before the race to finalize drives and optimize the kart for the race. Additionally, students market and create business plans for their team in order to sustain their team. This program not only gives students racing experience in a safe environment but also drives home careers in STEM fields along with
technical skills that will prove vital in future careers.
evGrand Prix was started in 2009 at Purdue University. Professor James Caruthers in Chemical Engineering was awarded a $6 million grant from the Department of Energy to expand electric vehicle education through a competitive racing event. This was the beginning of collegiate electric karting. In 2015, Purdue decided to expand evGrand Prix’s goal of electric vehicle education into the high school classroom.
