"Bethany began as a very small school with 6 students in 1961. When it was created it was an independent institution. As the foreign community of Taipei changed so did Bethany. From its outset, Bethany was a school established to meet the needs of missionary parents in Northern Taiwan. In 1967 Bethany joined the Morrison system.
Bethany has been on three different campuses. The current campus was built in 1987. Prior to the existence of this campus, there was little athletic interaction between expatriate middle schools in Taipei.
Up until 2016, Bethany was a school that averaged 200 students. Therefore, it has battled through disadvantages in competing with bigger institutions. There is an emotional aura that the big schools carry. The fact that the big school has more students to draw from is also an advantage. There are several schools on the island that live with these disadvantages. Bethany had the added inconvenience of not possessing a field to play on. Seeing as two of the four tournaments are played on grass, athletic life at Bethany became increasingly challenging. Nonetheless, there has been a large number of tournament victories claimed by Bethany.
Bethany won the Boys A volleyball tournament for 7 straight years from 1992-98. There were many other volleyball victories intermingled with the boys team's success. On two occasions all Bethany teams entered the volleyball tournament and won their divisions. Bethany has claimed several softball crowns as well. In the fall of 1998, Bethany claimed its first-ever soccer tournament championship. In the same year, the boys A team lost the basketball tournament in overtime by one point. The girls A team won Bethany’s only basketball title in 1991. These successes are proudly proclaimed in the trophy case in the lobby. The discussion of outcomes should not cloud the fact that Bethany’s athletic philosophy focuses on participation."
- Terry McGill 1998
"From 1998 until 2014 Bethany won numerous tournaments despite the size differentiation Mr. McGill talked about. Bethany joined a new league called TISSA (Taiwan Interscholastic School Sports Association). During the 2015-16 school year the name was changed from Bethany to Morrison Academy Taipei for the sports program in preparation for the move to the new campus."
