MC Markets offers students an exciting opportunity to create, upcycle, and sell their own crafts each term—no food items allowed. This is a fantastic way to learn real-world business skills, from pricing and handling money to understanding profit, loss, and market trends.
Students will experience supply and demand firsthand—what sells well one term may face competition the next! We encourage students to observe trends, innovate, and try new ideas. Parents can support their child’s planning and reflection, but students should take ownership of their stalls. Keep stock manageable—what a Year 1 student sells will differ from a Year 6 student’s setup.
Above all, this is a learning experience. Start small, experiment, and most importantly—have fun!
Time: Lunch
When: Week 4 & Week 8 each term
Guidelines:
Our design staff and classroom teachers are here to help students succeed in the MC Markets. The Design Lab is open for students to create and prototype their products, with materials available for small test projects. If a student plans to produce larger quantities—such as making 20 sets of earrings—they will need to cover the cost of supplies.
Throughout the year, we also offer small business classes to help students refine their ideas and grow their skills. For more information, visit Mr. Swafford in the Design Lab.

The highlight of our school market program is the Twilight Markets in December, where students showcase their best-selling products alongside local community vendors. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to take their mini-business to the next level, reaching a wider audience in a vibrant marketplace.
If you want to join the 2025 Twilight Market, connect with the Design Lab staff to secure your spot. We can’t wait to see our young entrepreneurs shine!
We’re looking to help students expand their businesses beyond MC Markets! Whether it’s selling locally or through an online marketplace, we believe our students have the creativity and skills to grow their ventures.
If you have ideas, connections, or resources to support this initiative, please get in touch with Louise Whitaker at louise.whitaker@mc.edu. We’d love to hear from you and explore ways to extend our students’ entrepreneurial opportunities!
