Launch Cura on a Design Lab computer.
Open Cura and select your 3D printer model from the setup menu.
Import Your Model
Click "Open File" and select your .STL or .OBJ file.
Position & Scale (if needed)
Use the move, scale, and rotate tools to adjust your model on the build plate.
Select Print Settings
Choose layer height, infill, supports, and adhesion options based on your model’s needs.
Use "Standard" presets or customize settings as needed.
Slice the Model
Click "Slice", and Cura will generate the G-code file.
Check the estimated print time and material usage. We limit prints to less than an hour.
Transfer the File
Send the file directly to a connected printer.
Start Printing
Ensure the printer is ready (bed levelled, filament loaded), then start the print.
Monitor the Print
Keep an eye on the first few layers to ensure proper adhesion.
Post-Processing
Remove the print by taking the glass out of the printer and scrape the 3D print free.
Once finished, remove supports, sand, or paint as needed.
Create Your Design
Use Tinkercad or another 3D modelling software to design your object.
Export your design as an STL file.
Prepare Your File
Ensure your STL file contains only one item for printing.
Double-check your design for any errors before submitting.
Submit Your File
Email your STL file to chris.swafford@mc.nsw.edu.au.
Include your name and project details in the email.
Printing Process
All efforts will be made to print your design once received.
Priority is given to new students and class-related projects.
Students will have the ability to print from a lab computer later in the school year.
