History
Little Bulgarian School (LBS) has more than 18 years of history as it began operation in the school year 2005-2006 with a total of 6 students. Currently, LBS provides education and daycare services to more than 600 children in 4 different facilities within the Elk Grove Village and other nearby suburbs. The organization was created mainly for Bulgarian children who wish to learn the Bulgarian language, history and culture. In 2010, LBS was recognized as a non-profit organization by the US authorities allowing it to grow even faster. The organization was founded by Jivka Petrova, a professor assistant of foreign linguistics/ languages in Bulgaria and the current Vice president of the organization. At the beginning classes were held at the home of Jivka Petrova, located in Elk Grove Village, however soon expanded to other facilities given the strong student enrollment growth. LBS is officially registered with the Ministry of Education and is entitled to issue certificates of graduation to Grade 1st to 12th.
Little Bulgarian School's history of unique children teaching techniques, via games, songs, drama and priority given to conversational speech, has proven to be the right growth strategy. The training relies exclusively on the most modern methods of language teaching, where students experience the joy of learning. LBS designed and published so far 6 textbooks as well as working on two more that are used by school 1-7 grade classes. The textbooks are particularly designed to help bilingual children to learn the Bulgarian language and culture faster in an innovative and interactive way. The organization also serves a social function as it is often used as a meeting place and community resource for the children as well as parents.
Based on our learning and teaching experiences and on linguistic studies about bilingualism we offer our new program that is focused on learning multiple languages in early academic years.
