Physical and Personal Development - NCEA Level 1


Programme Description : This course focuses on developing your personal and physical skills and abilities through a range of physical, outdoor, and group activities as well as self reflections and group discussions.

Learning Outcomes/Contexts:

The learning and development that this course focuses on is:

  • Resilience and perseverance

  • Self-management including time management, organisation, and kindness

  • Respect for self, others and the environment

  • Interpersonal skills

  • Identity and sense of self-worth

  • Self motivation, participation, and contributing

  • Improving Hauora (well-being)

This will occur through a range of activities which may include:

  • Modified and minor games

  • Problem solving activities

  • Team sports and games

  • Swimming and surf survival

  • Tramping and bushcraft

  • Rock climbing

  • Group discussions and reflection

  • Brainstorms and use of google docs.

Skills and Capabilities:

Resilience, perseverance, self management, interpersonal skills, motivation, participation, and contributing will be developed through physical and outdoor activities that will allow you to challenge yourself and extend your comfort zone. Respect for self, others, and the environment; identity and self-worth; and improving of hauora (well-being) will be developed through planning and reflection in class time as well as practical activities.

Assessment Opportunities: assessments will be a mix of practical, written and verbal. The majority will be internally assessed with the possibility of an external assessment.

Programme Description : This course is designed for students who enjoy a range of practical contexts and want to develop their understanding of sport and fitness further.

  • Use training principles to design effective programmes

Working with a range of people, interpersonal skills, problem solving, effective communication. Social responsibility, resilience, perseverance.

Programme Description : This course is designed for students who enjoy movement and sport and want to develop their physical skills further. It will also provide the opportunity to develop critical thinking and leadership.

Learning Outcomes/Contexts:

Learning and development in this course will include:

  • Develop and improve skill performance in sport contexts

  • Evaluate the use of health promotion to influence physical activity participation

  • Reflect and evaluate physical experiences to develop strategies for lifelong well-being

  • Apply anatomical and biomechanical principles to sporting movements

  • Evaluate the use of leadership styles in physical activity

  • Training programmes

  • A range of team and individual sports

  • Working with others to influence participation

Skills and Capabilities:

Students will develop interpersonal skills, social responsibility and practice leadership skills. Develop perseverance and resilience to improve skill and fitness levels. Students will learn to question and challenge assumptions made.

Programme Description : This course is designed for students that wish to explore a range of health issues to gain understanding of how these issues influence self, others and society.

Learning Outcomes/Contexts:

Learning and development in this course will include:

  • Explore influencing factors on health issues

  • Develop strategies for enhancing well-being

  • Discuss social issues and suggest actions to promote social justice for self, others and society

  • Take collective action to enhance well-being within the school or wider community

This course is designed for students to develop critical thinking skills through researching a range of New Zealand health issues.

Learning Outcomes/Contexts:

Learning and development in this course will include:

  • Focus on wider societal health issues and use evidence to critically analyse these issues

  • Use the determinants of health to understand how well-being of individuals, others and society is influenced

  • Ethical discussions to consider a range of viewpoints

Skills and Capabilities:

Critical thinking, develop strategies for sustainable and health promoting options, collaborative working. Develop strategies to promote a fair, inclusive and non-discriminatory society.

Outdoor Education

Outdoor Education - NCEA Level 2

Programme Description : This course is for students who enjoy the outdoors and the challenges and opportunities that outdoor activities provide.

Learning Outcomes/Contexts:

Learning and development in this course will include:

  • Technical skills and the equipment needed for outdoor activities

  • Risk and safety management

  • Leadership and group management

  • Environmental awareness

  • Social Responsibility

  • You will come out with a better understanding of how to participate in outdoor activities as well as how to responsibly look after themselves, others and the environment.

Outdoor Activities may include:

  • Sea kayaking

  • Team building activities

  • Tramping

  • Rock Climbing

  • Mountain Biking

  • Whitewater Rafting

Skills and Capabilities:

Programme Description : This course focuses on developing your skills in the outdoors and providing you with a range of unique opportunities to challenge yourself. It aims to increase your self-awareness and build your ability to think critically.

Learning and development in this course will include:

  • Physical and technical skills in a range of outdoor activities.

  • Self-management and independence.

  • Work cooperatively with others and in a group.

  • Appreciation for the outdoor environment and a want to look after it. To explore the historical significance of the areas ventured to.

  • Planning and organisation of an outdoor activity and event and the logistics associated with it.

  • Critically evaluating and challenging assumptions about a range of topical issues.

Outdoor Activities may include:

  • Rock climbing

  • Mountain biking

  • Tramping

  • Off-road running

Edu-Caterer - NCEA Levels 1, 2 and 3

Would you like to work in the hospitality industry?

Would you like to learn new skills that would lead to being able to work in a café or restaurant?

Would you like to help with the setting up and running of a café or restaurant?

Then this is the course for you.

An industry based pathway course, this will develop and build the skills that are used in the food service industry. This course is open to any student from

Years 11-13, prior knowledge is not needed but a love of food and food preparation is important. Standards will be chosen to meet the learning needs of each student.
