PROPOSED PROJECT
Location: The bridge is located on Paterson Plank Road (Route 681) in Secaucus, Hudson County and spans Route 3 at milepost 10.04. The project limits extend from the west at Daffy’s Way to the east at Park Plaza Drive.
Purpose: The purpose of the project is to replace the bridge to address the structural deficiencies and improve functional characteristics/requirements on the bridge.
Need: The structure was built in 1952 and is structurally deficient due to the poor condition of the bridge superstructure and functionally obsolete due to the substandard lateral and vertical under clearances.
Preliminary Preferred Alternative (PPA): The PPA is for the replacement of the bridge with a raised roadway profile to obtain greater vertical under clearance.
Additional improvements include:
· Sidewalk connectivity;
· ADA-compliant curb ramps;
· Lighting upgrades;
· Bridge lengthening to permit future capacity on RT 3
· Addition of shoulders and a dedicated auxiliary lane on the replacement bridge.
Environmental Information: The environmental screening and studies were conducted to identify the natural resources and cultural/historic resources within the project area. The documentation and permits will be completed as required in coordination with the Federal and State agencies during the next phase of the project.
