Click link to print: Math flash cards (Add & Subtract)
Math facts are super important to learn at this age. It will help them tremendously in third grade when they have multiplication and division. Memorizing math facts will also help them save time on standardized tests like the PARCC and allow them to focus on the more challenging aspects of a math problem.
This year I am introducing Math Fact Ninjas. We will be working on our addition facts first and then once mastered I will move onto subtraction. Flashcards can be printed at home and can be found on the below link. After our addition is completed we will move onto subtraction and a new packet of flashcards will follow. I will start on +1 and move up. After a week or so of practice, they will take their fact test. If they complete the test under the allotted time and get them ALL correct they will earn their “belt”. If they do not earn their belt they will retake the test the next day. This is naturally differentiated with each child working at their own pace to earn their belts.
This method will help challenge your child to memorize their facts and still allow them to have fun. I have a math ninja display where the children will move their number as they move up to a Black Belt. Please help your child earn their belts by practicing their facts at home using the flashcards. Good luck NINJAS!!!
Here’s our Belt Order:
1 facts= white
2 facts= yellow
3 facts= orange
4 facts= green
5 facts= purple
6 facts= blue
7 facts= blue/black
8 facts= brown
9 facts= black
