J.L. Roach was the first Wolverine wrestler to ever qualify for state. He defeated a Hamilton wrestler to advance to the state tournament during the 1976-1977 season.

One year later during the 1977-1978 season, Chuck Denny became the first Wolverine wrestler to ever medal at state winning 6th place

Wolverines are Conference Champs

Maysville won their first of 15 GRC titles during the 1977-1978 season. Reardon (126), Roach (145), Denny (185), and Rhoad (hwt) won conference titles. Weidmaier, Sloan, Whitsell, Assel, and Molloy finished second. Nine Wolverines in total placed in the finals. Six wrestlers made it to regionals and two went onto state competition. Coach Dennis Vanlandingham was named District 5 Coach of the Year. The Wolverines would repeat as conference champions the next season.

1990 team sends school record 7 to state

The 1989-1990 wrestling squad sent a school record 7 wrestlers to state. This feat has been matched twice since (2006 and 2008) and beaten in 2023. Unfortunately only one wrestler came out with a medal.

The "rock" lives in Maysville

Maysville has always had successful individual wrestlers and a few teams here and there that were dominant. A stretch from 1999 through 2006 saw the Maysville Wolverines complete dominate the GRC, winning the conference title every year. This stretch included some of the best wrestlers to go through the wrestling program.
