We will now consult with staff with how we will move forward.
👍Thank you for supporting our school!👍
Arbor Behaviour Points
We have been using the negative behaviours points system since September, which we have now made live to you. There were a few hiccups at the beginning, like the wrong child being linked to an incident etc. so please do speak to your class teacher if you have any comments or queries. Each time there is a negative behaviour incident, this will be discussed with you by the class teacher.
We are now exploring using positive points in the same way and hopefully over the coming terms this will also become embedded in our practice.
Dear Families,
Welcome back for Term 4, I hope you all had a fantastic half term.
The spring sunshine has been a welcome sight this week, with our daffodils making an appearance in front of the school too!
Mid Term reports and drop in
Our Mid Year reports have been shared with parents today. We hope you find these useful to keep you updated on your child's progress and give you guidance on how to further support learning at home. It has been a pleasure for me to read through the reports and hear about your children's love of learning and the progress they are making! If you would like to discuss your child's report further, our class teachers are available for drop ins on Monday 10th from 3.15 - 3.45pm.
Governor visit day on 14th March
Our Governors are visiting school next Friday to monitor priority areas of our School Development Plan. They will speak with pupils and staff, accompany school leaders on Learning Walks and look at books. Some Governors will also be on the main gate in the morning - please do come by and say hello or share some feedback. If you would like to know more, there is a short video below outlining the role of a Governor.
Finally, a special thank you to Isabelle and Sophie's Dad, Mr Noel who brought us in a sack of potatoes for decorating on World Book Day!
Have a great weekend,

Reminders
Please keep your children's long hair tied back. This simple step can significantly help prevent the spread of head lice.
Head lice and nits are very common in young children and their families. They are not caused by dirty hair and are picked up by head-to-head contact.
Follow the guidance below on how to treat head lice.

According to Ofcom’s most recent Media Use and Attitudes Report, roughly 55% of 3-17-year-olds in the UK are using WhatsApp as their primary messaging service. Not only does that make WhatsApp the most popular messaging platform among children and young people in the UK; it also means that of the app’s approximately three billion users, over seven million of them are British youngsters – keeping in touch with friends and family, but also being exposed to its various risks ⚠️
As parents and educators, it’s our responsibility to stay up-to-date on the safety concerns around this highly popular app, and know how to protect children and young people who are on the platform 🛡️ Take a look at this expert-led free guide, breaking down WhatsApp’s most prominent risks and advising you on how best to safeguard the app’s younger users.

Introducing Lily Stevanovic - Parent and Carer Practitioner from Me and My Mind
Lily from ‘Me and My Mind’ team (part of Mental Health Support Teams), would like to set up sessions to help parents & carers with supporting their child/young person’s mental and emotional wellbeing. We offer workshops, themed coffee mornings, drop-in sessions, online and recorded webinars and short courses on specific subjects but would first like to know what would be most valuable for you and your young person right now. Sessions could include things like “Supporting your child with Anxiety and Worry” or getting advice and support on Sleep, Food; Mood, Tricky Mornings, Exam Anxiety and many more.
Please click: https://forms.office.com/e/QYXhLwZ2NG or scan QR code to complete a quick 1-minute survey to find out what kind of things are on offer and to say which ones you would be interested in attending. For further information or to find out more speak to Carly Townsend.
To ensure MedicalTracker meets your needs and addresses any concerns, we would appreciate you taking a few minutes to complete this questionnaire. Your feedback is valuable to us.
As you know, at Maynard’s Green Primary School, we are lucky enough to have our very own indoor swimming pool located on site. Each year the school goes above and beyond the National Curriculum expectations, allowing all our children to get the opportunity to swim every year. Highly experienced and fully qualified swimming teachers will prepare and teach all swimming lessons in small groups. This means that by the time your child leaves our school they will not only have learnt the most basic water safety skills, but are on their way to becoming confident and able swimmers – an important life skill that will last a lifetime!
**Please complete the Swimming Consent on your Arbor Parent Portal**
Swimming will start from Monday 28th April 2025
General Health & Safety precautions
children will need to wear a swimming hat and (for girls) a one-piece costume (no bikinis). Goggles are optional (all items, including pants, socks and towels, should be named, please).
children will not be allowed in the pool if they have verrucas unless they are wearing a special verruca sock (these may be purchased from any pharmacy).
children are not permitted to enter the pool if they have plasters covering an open cut or graze
sleepers/studs should not be worn in the pool.
This term we have become story tellers! We have been learning about traditional tales and how they can differ due to being passed from generation to generation. We have enjoyed reading other versions like 'The Runaway Pancake' and finding out it was very similar to The Gingerbread Man.
We have also been enjoying our Drawing Club sessions. This week we were trying to give Goldilocks some help so she would not get caught by the bears.
Some of the children also drew a map to help Red Riding Hood get to Grandma's house safely. They labelled their map using their sounds - well done!
Mrs Green
Reception Class teacher
In year one we have begun learning all about the UK! We have explored England and Wales. Next, we will learn about Scotland and Northern Ireland. We are having a lot of fun getting to use atlases and globes to support our learning.
We got to have Welsh rarebit to enjoy, it was yummy!! We have also been collaging flags. We collaged flags of the UK and this week we made up our own imaginary lands and collaged flags for that land. We put in lots of effort with these and They are hanging up in our classroom.
We have also had a big focus on Online Safety. We have been discussing how we would show kindness to someone in person and we must do the same online. We have breifly discussed what we should do if we saw something online that we didn't like. The children have had some really mature conversations and all know to speak to an adult when needed.

Year 2
We have had a wonderful start back to Term 4 - especially as we are starting Outdoor Learning on Mondays. It's been muddy but fantastic, with learning new skills and exploring our outdoor environment. In English, we are following the story of Bob, The Man on the Moon. We went on a tour of the moon - apparently Bob says there are no such things as aliens.....Maths has seen us doing division, both by sharing and grouping. We have finally finished our globe-trotting with visits to Brazil and Antarctica. For history, we are beginning the exciting topic of explorers.
Mrs Boorer
Year Two Class Teacher
Year 3
This week has been very busy in Year 3! On Monday, we had a visit from Giulia who guided us through an art workshop based on the history of the Cuckoo Trail. We drew trains and decided what cargo it would have taken to London; flowers, milk, butter and other perishable goods. On Tuesday, Rachel from High Weald Heroes took us on an Anglo-Saxon Welly Walk through Sapperton Woods. She told us stories about dragons and we made a lucky charm from items found on the woodland floor. Lastly, Thursday was World Book Day. We made our favourite characters from books into potato characters and also learnt how to draw a squirrel in a spring time scene, with the online help of an illustrator. I think we all did a fantastic job!
Year 4
In Term 4, we are continuing Gymnastics in PE. Having covered ways to travel and jumps, we are now focusing on various rolls.
We also had a lovely visit from our Young at Heart residents on Pancake Day. The children showed themselves to be so helpful and considerate, bringing over pens and pencils for the residents, chatting to them about their Pancake Day traditions and discussing their own.
Here's a recount from Harper and Belle from the visit:
On Tuesday the class went to the hall and Young at Heart came. We were with someone called Alan and we did pancake colouring and a word search. We helped Alan do the word search because he struggled with drawing the lines and finding the words. Fun fact: we can hear 100% and Alan can only hear 5% and he also used to be an artist. Alan tried to blend the pen but he couldn't because it was too dry. We had such a fun time with Young at Heart and Alan enjoyed it too. It was the best afternoon ever!
Term 4 has gotten off to a good start. The children are working hard to perfect their dance routine for the Big Dance next week. Miss Street has very kindly printed names on T-shirts, which the children are very excited about.
This week, the School Council launched the new weekly online class meeting. Each week, two children from each year group, will host the meeting in their class and discuss issues related to the school etc. The Year 5 School Councilors did a great job.
Sporting News:
On Wednesday 5th March, Children from Year 6 took part in the Wealden Area Netball Tournament Final at Heathfield Community Collage. The standard of play was extremely high and very competitive. Our team won their league without dropping a game. They played in the final against Ashdown, who had won their league, but lost the title by one point. The team should be very proud of themselves for giving such a fantastic performance and for never giving up. Well done to you all!
It's been a busy start to Term 4 in Year 6!
We have already had a visitor, Giulia, who talked us through the history of the Cuckoo Trail and led a workshop where we got to design our own trains.
Additionally, we have been learning even more methods in our fractions topic. With SATs around the corner, we are working on improving our arithmetic scores!
In PE, we have started our gymnastics and tag rugby lessons. We have enjoyed practising different types of balances, jumps and rolls in gymnastics; in tag rugby we have been learning how to pass the ball to each other effectively.

Would you like one of these beautiful badges, designed by Quentin Blake?
The rules are simple:
Tell them about a book you have read and what you think about it. Maybe you liked the characters, or perhaps you enjoyed going on exciting adventures in faraway places.
Upload your illustration of a character or a scene from the story. This could be a drawing, painting or even digital artwork.
Let them know what other books and authors you have enjoyed reading and why.
Simply go to the link below and find out more. If you get a badge, let me know and we can celebrate in assembly .

📖 World Book Day 2025 📕
This year, all the children in the school brought a potato into school and then decorated it as their favourite book character. Can you tell which character they are?
On Friday, 21st March we will be celebrating Red Nose Day. This year, we will be 'Doing Something Funny for Money'. Each class has recently voted for an activity and the majority of votes were in favour of a keepy uppy balloon challenge. Each class will take part in the challenge in the hall on the day.
The School Council will also be selling Red Noses that the children are welcome to wear on the day. These will be £2 each and all donations will go to the Comic Relief. The sale of noses will begin on Monday, 10th March.
School Council and Mrs Holton
As part of our science learning at Maynards we want children to learn about as many different types of scientists to help them understand their contributions to our world and inspire them to potentially follow in their footsteps.
I set the children a challenge to hunt for information about female scientists I had put up around the school and complete a form writing the scientists name and the key facts about why they are famous.
During their break times they are able to access this information and it was amazing to see how many children took part and wanted to find out more.
As part of their form they chose a scientist they wanted to find out more about and I will be showcasing these scientists in assemblies over the next few terms.
Jane Goodall, who is a Primatologist, was a popular choice and was the first scientist we have taken a closer look at.
If your child continues their learning at home and you want to share their development of science please feel free to email me at nalexander@maynardsgreen.org
