Maynards Green CP School
OUR SCHOOL VISION
For our children to have the confidence, skills and attitude to become responsible citizens who can achieve their potential.
A message from Mrs Clark
Dear Families,
Celebrating our Staff!
We are incredibly proud to announce significant professional achievements for two of our dedicated staff members this term.
A huge congratulations to Mrs Green for successfully completing the National Professional Qualification for Early Years Leadership (NPQEYL).
This prestigious qualification involves rigorous study and a significant school-improvement project. Achieving this status demonstrates Mrs Green's commitment to leadership and her ability to drive positive change across the school.
We are also delighted to announce that Miss Taylor has been selected as an East Sussex County Moderator.
This is a highly respected role that involves working with other schools to validate assessment standards and ensure consistency across the county. This selection is a recognition of Miss Taylor's expertise in English curriculum and assessment. It not only allows her to share best practices widely but also brings valuable insight back into our own classrooms.
When our teachers grow, our pupils grow. These achievements ensure that our school remains at the forefront of educational developments, allowing us to provide the best outcomes for our pupils.
Well done to both of you for your hard work and dedication!
We are pleased to announce that Maynards Green is partnering with School Pastors to launch a new wellbeing initiative starting this March.
As part of a pilot project, we will be introducing a "Listening Space" on the third Wednesday of every month. This drop-in session allows pupils to have a non-judgmental, confidential conversation with two trained School Pastors. The listening space project will be available for pupils in Y4,5 and 6.
We understand that sometimes children just need a listening ear. Pupils will be able to access this support either through a referral from their class teacher or by choosing to self-refer. To ensure everyone feels comfortable with this new service, Mrs Clark will be holding a special assembly in Term 4 to introduce the School Pastors and explain how the Listening Space works to the children.
2nd March 9am Tricky Mornings workshop @ MG
We know many children find the transition from home to school challenging, and it can be exhausting for parents. There are still spaces left for this practical workshop running in March. Please sign up using the QR code on our homepage https://maynardsgreenschool.co.uk/esussex/primary/maynardsgreen or by contacting the school office.
Have a fantastic weekend.
Warm wishes,
Mrs Clark

Don’t worry—you don’t need to be a master tailor or spend a fortune to create a great costume! Often, the best outfits are "DIY" versions made from items you already have at home.
It’s time to dust off the bookmarks and ignite those imaginations!
This day is all about celebrating the magic of reading and the stories that stay with us. As part of our ongoing commitment to pupil voice, we asked the children what dressing-up theme they would like for the day and they voted overwhelmingly to come to school dressed as their favourite character from a book.
A Quick Note on Costumes
While we love the creativity, please ensure that costumes are:
Comfortable: Children will be in these outfits all day, including during lessons and playtime.
Safe: Please avoid any toy weapons.
Practical: Ensure your child can move easily and use the restroom without assistance.
Top Tip: If your child isn't keen on a full costume, they are more than welcome to bring in a "prop" that represents a character (like a jar of dreams for the BFG) or wear a badge featuring their favourite book cover.
We can’t wait to see which characters walk through our doors! Thank you for your continued support in fostering a love of reading in our school community.
A huge thank you to all our families for the incredible effort with today’s Rock Star Hair! The school has been buzzing with colour, creativity, and some truly gravity-defying styles. It has been fantastic to see the children so inspired and ready to "rock" their maths. We even got a shout out on the live feed!
The Competition Continues! Don't forget, the TTRS competition is still live! Pupils have until 7:30 pm tonight to complete their 60-minute "Power Hour" and earn those final crucial points for their class.
The Times Tables Rock Stars platform will be crunching the numbers over the weekend, and we will officially announce the winning classes and top performers next week!
What an exciting term it has been in Reception. We have travelled to space, met some aliens and learnt about the creation story. We still have Lunar New Year to learn about - we have been working our socks off!
The highlight of this term is the introduction of drawing club. The children have loved this and fully engaged in creating their own characters, settings and stories. We are looking forward to doing this every term going forward.
Mrs Osborn
Reception Class teacher
This term we have been learning all about the United Kingdom. It has been lovely seeing the children taking their learning into their play. Rory and Ella made their own model of London which included Big Ben and the River Thames. Hector even took his new learning into his after school club and tried to make the Scottish and English flags out of lego!
Mrs Green and Mrs Keet
Year One Class Teachers
Year 2
In art this term, we have been working through the process of printmaking. We have explored different themes, including nature and animals from around the world. This week, children used ink and rollers to create trace prints of animals.
In PSHE, we made birds using the origami technique. In this lesson, we worked hard to complete a task that lots of us found difficult, showing courage and resilience whilst trying new things.
Miss Packham and Mrs Keet
Year Two Class Teachers
In outdoor learning, Year 3 have been planting new willow plants and creating archways with the willow. After that, they dug holes and planted different types of trees. The children have really enjoyed outdoor learning this term, despite all the rain and mud!
In RE, we are learning about the Islamic faith, and more specifically how Muslims pray, where they worship and festivals such as Ramadan and Eid ul Fitr.
Miss Taylor
Year 3 Class Teacher
Year 4
In Year 4, we are continuing our learning on volcanoes and earthquakes. To help us visualise the processes involved in the volcanic eruption, we created a piece of drama to show the process, from the movements of tectonic plates to magma moving through the vent. Back in the classroom, we used our drama and pictures to help us describe the process.
In science, we are continuing to learn about pollution. On Monday we had a special visit from Mrs Fitzgeorge-Balfour who is a marine biologist. She told us all about her work as a scientist as well as highlighted the dangers of the water pollution to the environment. During the session, we watched a fascinating video about a new deep ocean creature that was discovered with traces of microplastics in its digestive tract!
Mrs Holton
Year 4 Class Teacher
The children have been working extremely hard to master the choreographed dance routine in readiness for the 'Big Dance' festival in March. The link to order tickets has been sent to you all, so make sure you book your seats! The children are very excited about performing in front their family and friends.
In other areas of learning, in History,Year 5 will continue to learn how crime and punishment has changed over time and in Maths, learn how to multiply fractions, find a fraction of an amount and use fractions as operators.
Sport News:
On Wednesday 21st January, twenty children from Years 5 and 6 took part in the 'Heathfield Area indoor Athletics Tournament'. It was a very exciting event, with 160 children taking part in a number of running races and fielding type activities such as long jump , javelin and vertical jumps. Both the boys and the girls came second in their league and with a combined score, won the overall tournament. This is the first time that Maynards Green has progressed to the next round. This will take place at Beacon Academy on the 11th March 2026. Good luck to all our athletes.
Miss Lacey
Class Teacher - PE Lead
It's been a busy Term 3!
We have been loving our new text in English, The Barnabus Project by The Fan Brothers. We have written predictions, alternative story endings as well as persuasive letters. We have also been exploring different levels of formallity. Would you speak to the monarch in the same way you would speak to your friend?
In maths, we are getting stuck into fractions! Everyone has realised how much using our "fast track pass" (knowing our multiplication and division fact families) helps with all things fractions!
During our PE learning, we have worked in small groups to choreograph our own dances during our Wednesday lessons, based on a stamp, clap dance that we learned as a class. In our Monday lessons, we have been working on the components of fitness. It has even inspired some members of the class at lunch times, where some children have been running laps to keep working on their fitness!
Our PSHE topic has been Dreams and Goals and we have been looking at our own dreams and goals as well as wishes for the world. We planned a charity activity and presented these to the class.
Miss Francis
Year 6 Class Teacher
I am delighted to announce our new Nature Champions for 2026 have had their first session with Kim Twinn this term!
The selection process was very tricky as there were some amazing applications but I finally managed to select our team for the year.
They enjoyed a session completing the RSPB Big School's Bird Watch and collected data which will be uploaded onto the website to provide the organisation with valuable insights into the populations of birds present in the UK.
The Nature Champions took part in a number of activities both inside and outside in some rather wet weather. Using their senses to identify areas on the school grounds that had birds present to record down on their sheets.
We are incredibly lucky to have the expertise of Kim Twinn working with us for another year. She gives her time and expert knowledge for free to ensure we can inspire the children to have an understanding of the world around them. She was delighted to meet the new team and expressed how impressed she was with them in this first session.
It's always lovely to hear how the children are inspired to develop their science at home. Please feel free to email me.
Many thanks,
Mrs A
