Maynard High School is seeking community members to mentor seniors through meaningful, real-world project experiences. These partnerships help students develop critical thinking, communication, planning, and problem‑solving skills while connecting academics with real community needs.

By volunteering as a community mentor, you play a vital role in helping students experience authentic, real‑world learning. Your guidance helps them build confidence, explore career pathways, develop responsibility, and strengthen their ability to work with others.

What do we want from you?
• Time: Approximately 1 hour every other week (~10 total hours, January–May).
• Expertise: None required — any area you feel comfortable discussing/working with.
• Role: Serve as a guide, not an employer. Help students shape, plan, and refine a project that matches your interests or background.
What you'll help the student do
Select, plan, and make progress on a project.
Develop executive skills (organization, planning, follow‑through).
Understand how adults work, solve problems, and collaborate.
Practice communication, presentation, and critical thinking.
Prepare a final presentation for school faculty.
How the Process Works
1. Community partners create a simple “mock project idea” based on something they can guide OR community partners have a real work project that they would like a student to work on.
2. Students are matched with partners whose interests align with their goals.
3. Meetings occur every other week (in‑person or virtual).
4. Students complete the bulk of the work in school with teacher oversight.
5. Students present their final project to a faculty panel in May.
Examples of Projects You Could Support
Evaluate whether a family can afford a home or car (finance).
Research and design a public bike path or skate park (civic planning).
Investigate expanding solar power or EV charging locations in town (sustainability).
Develop a mobile app or website mockup for a community need (technology).
Create a social media campaign (marketing).
