July 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we reach the conclusion of another academic year, I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on the wonderful experiences we have shared throughout the month We have had a truly marvellous end to the school year, highlighted by a successful sports day featuring a range of multisport activities. A heartfelt thank you to all the parents who came along to support the children; your presence certainly added to the atmosphere.
Sea Turtles class had an enriching experience during their trip to Dapdune Wharf, where they completed a fascinating river study. It was delightful to witness the enthusiasm of our children as they engaged with the learning outside the classroom.
I trust you have enjoyed reading your child's end-of-year report, which encapsulates their academic progress and achievements. Seahorse and Starfish class assemblies showcased some of the incredible learning that has taken place this year, and it was a pleasure to hear our children speak with such confidence and pride.
Year 6 have celebrated a memorable end to their primary school journey with an activity week filled with excitement. Highlights included a thrilling trip to Chessington, an Outdoor and Adventurous Activities day at Runways End, a school sleepover, and a bake-off where they created some fantastic cakes. Their graduation service marked a special moment, and I would like to wish our lovely Year 6 children every success as they transition to secondary school.
Yesterday's talent show, "Maybury's Got Talent," was another highlight of the week; it was a joy to watch our children showcase their diverse talents. Well done everyone!
Sea Turtles class won the attendance award for this term and were rewarded with an exciting bowling trip.
As we bid farewell to the end of term, we also say goodbye to Miss Mitchell, Mrs Everitt, and Mrs Cunnew, who will be leaving us. We thank them for their dedication and hard work, and we wish them all the best in their future endeavours.
Please be reminded that school will close at 1:30 pm on Friday, 18th July, and will reopen on Wednesday, 3rd September, at 8:35 am. We hope you have a wonderful summer break. Upon our return, we will hold class information sessions for parents; further details can be found in the dates section of our newsletter.
Thank you for your continued support throughout the year.
Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable summer.
Best regards,
Mrs Merritt
Headteacher
I am thrilled to share the fantastic news that we have been reaccredited for the Wellbeing Award for another three years! 🎉 This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire community—including you, our wonderful parents.
As part of the reassessment, we received some lovely comments in our report that I would like to share with you:
“Each stakeholder spoke with such energy and love of the school, which doubtlessly drives their desire for Maybury to continue to go from strength to strength.”
The assessors also highlighted the significant impact we have made in promoting cohesion and connection with the wider community. They noted that this is only possible when our staff team enjoys a close and supportive relationship.
Furthermore, the importance of well-being was described as a "golden thread" woven through all areas of school life. We strive to empower our children and their families to take an active role in their well-being efforts, equipping them with invaluable skills for life both now and in the future.
Thank you once again for your continued support and involvement. It truly does make a difference!
Mrs Gregory
Assistant Headteacher
It has been a busy month in Rainbow Fish. We have been reading ‘My Mum and Dad Make Me Laugh’ and ‘Washing Line’ to the children which they really enjoyed. They had a fun time exploring the continuous and enhanced provision that had been set up for them.
Rainbow Fish also had the opportunity to visit their new reception class Starfish for transition day! They had lots of fun and were so excited to come and tell us what they did on transition day.
Rainbow Fish also had their own sports day in the nursery garden and were so excited to have their parents come and cheer them on. We were so proud of how well Rainbow Fish participated in sports day, well done!
To celebrate the end of term, Rainbow Fish held a graduation concert and picnic! They were so excited to sing lovely summer songs to their parents and have a picnic in the nursery garden!
It has been a pleasure teaching Rainbow Fish this year and we are so proud to see how much progress they have made. We wish our lovely children moving to reception all the best and look forward to seeing our returners and new starters in September!
Sports Day
The children had fun at their sports day. The children were in 4 teams, red, blue, yellow and green.
They took part in different races. Balance the Beanbag. Beanbag Toss. Teddy Relay Race. Over and Under Ball Race.
Thank you for coming to watch and cheer us on.
Assembly
Starfish children have learnt so much this year so we invited the mummies and daddies in to share our favourite moments in Starfish Class. The children spoke well and sang some of their favourite songs.
Thank you for coming to support us.
The Three Little Fish
Starfish have been reading the story of The Three Little Fish and the Big Bad Shark. It reminds us of the story of The Three Little Pigs.
We joined in with the story and took turns to act it out. We also wrote the story using our phonics.
Being Creative
The children love making and creating in the creative area. They put skills that we have learnt in class into action such as joining with glue and cellotape and cutting with scissors. They enjoy making things with loose parts, blocks and playdough. They create unique things.
Summer
We learnt about the season summer and how the sun’s rays are strong in the summer, so we have to use sun cream to stop our skin from burning.
We have learnt to stay safe in the sun, we slip, slop, slap…
Slip on a t-shirt.
Slop on sun cream.
Slap on a hat. And wear sunglasses and find shade to play in.
Keep safe and enjoy the summer holidays. Remember to keep practising your reading. See you all in September!
We have had another busy month with our learning. We created codes for sprites in our computing unit and learnt about the four countries that make up the UK in our geography lessons. We had fun at Sports day and loved competing in our coloured teams.
In our RE lessons we have been thinking about how we can help look after our world. We learnt that all religions believe that it is human beings responsibility to look after the world we live in. The children in Seahorses thought about the things they could do to help look after the planet such as using both sides of a piece of paper, recycling and turning off the tap whilst brushing their teeth.
In our Design and Technology lessons we have been planning, making and evaluating a fruit salad. We loved testing lots of different fruits and then using our market research to create our own tasty fruit salad. The best bit was eating them afterwards though!
The children have worked very hard this year. We hope that you all have a fun and relaxing summer.
This month, we have been finishing off our DT learning on healthy sandwiches. We have taste-tested different ingredients, planned our own sandwiches and practised the different skills we would need (grating, peeling, chopping, slicing and spreading). We then used all of these to make our own sandwiches which we then ate and evaluated.
In Science, we have been learning about different scientists and completing some experiments about their work. One lesson was on how chemicals can get from farms into the ocean and we showed how this happens with our land (gravel) being sprinkled with pesticides (glitter) and then rain falling to wash it into the water.
For our maths learning, we have looked at time again and are getting really good at reading the time to the nearest 5 minutes. We make sure the check whether the minute hand it past or to, count the minutes in 5s and then check our hour hand.
In PE, we also had sports day and some fitness workshops – the children really showed off their skills!
We have done so many exciting things this year and the children have worked so hard! It has been a lovely year and I hope the children have a well-deserved rest over the summer.
We have ended Year 3 on a high! The children were excited to take part in their Sports Day showing great teamwork skills and cheering each other on enthusiastically.
We enjoyed a visit from David Tricks to watch a magic show about road safety!
We enjoyed a wonderful trip to Wisley as part of our Science learning about plants and plant hunters.
In DT, the children completed their DT learning by making their own bread rolls. They learnt how to knead and shape the dough, before adding their own ingredients and finishing off with an egg wash to make it golden brown. They all smelled delicious when they came out of the oven!
We held an audition for our annual Maybury’s Got Talent which happens at the end of the year. There were some great entries!
In PE, the children learnt how to run efficiently, throw using a chest push and take part in a relay. It was great to see the progress they made each week.
Last week the children visited their new Year 4 class. They came back very excited to hear about all the fun learning, activities and trips they will look forward to next year, including the sleepover!
In History we have continued our learning about the Stone Age. The children wrote their own non-chronological reports in Literacy about Stone Henge, Stone Age tools and homes.
In Maths we have been learning about Statistics. The children have been interpreting and making pictograms and bar charts.
This week we had a visit from Heidi who works at Chertsey museum. She delivered a Stone Age workshop for us. The children got to see and hold some real-life Stone Age and Iron Age artefacts, as well as some replicas. They tried loom weaving, looked at animal bones and attempted to make wattle walls by weaving. All this alongside our usual daily activities and learning, what a busy month!
We have had a fantastic year together, we have crammed in so much learning and so many exciting opportunities. Good luck in Year 4 Manta Rays, your new Badge Class awaits you!
In Literacy, the children have been learning about subordinating conjunctions. They used these conjunctions to craft their own imaginative stories, drawing inspiration from our model text, 'The Magic Paintbrush'. The children showed creativity as they began to put together more complex sentences to tell their stories and I encourage you to ask your children about their stories at home.
Additionally, I am thrilled to report that the children have completed their Design and Technology unit by designing and building their own buzzer maze games! They successfully applied their understanding of electrical circuits while also adding personal touches to make their games visually appealing. I encourage you to ask your child to demonstrate how their creations work; they are quite proud of their hard work!
Lastly, the children recently participated in fitness workshops, engaging in a circuit of activities designed to promote physical health and well-being including rowing movements, boxing and bouncing on a mini trampoline. It was delightful to see everyone having fun while staying active!
This Month, We had an amazing trip to Dapdune Wharf on the River Wey. This adventure provided the children with a fantastic opportunity to explore the river's features through a boat trip, followed by some sketching activities. Engaging with the environment in this hands-on way enhanced their understanding of river ecosystems and geographies. It was a wonderful day out!
In mathematics this term, we are focusing on the conversion of measurements. This is a crucial skill, and we will be applying it in practical contexts, including during our trip to the River Wey. I encourage you to explore measurement conversions at home as well, whether it’s cooking, sports, or even measuring garden plants!
In literacy, the students were working on their applications for Year 6 jobs, which will be presented to Mrs Merritt, our headteacher. This exercise not only develops their writing skills but also promotes responsibility and independence—key attributes for the upcoming school year. This is a wonderful opportunity for them to showcase their talents and aspirations.
We had amazing Sports Day, Before the event we had been practising teamwork and sportsmanship in our P.E. sessions. The children have been showing great enthusiasm and collaboration, and it was a pleasure seeing this spirit shine during the event. It's always a highlight in the school year!
In French, we continued our café theme, where the children ordered delicious pastries and refreshing juices entirely in French. This interactive experience not only made learning fun but also helped reinforce their language skills in a practical setting. Perhaps you could have a little café experience at home over the weekend!
In our DT lessons we completed a bridge-building project. Children were investigating different bridge types, designing a bridge, and then constructing and evaluating a model. We learnt about the strengths and weaknesses of various bridge designs like beam, arch, and suspension bridges, and how materials like triangles can be used to create strong structures.
Lastly, we had a lovely changeover day spent with their new Year 6 teacher, gearing up for the transition to Owl Class. The children are full of excitement and curiosity about what is to come, and we are here to support them every step of the way!
WOW! What a year! Such a busy end to the school year and Dolphins’ time at Maybury.
We have been nonstop having fun since we returned in June.
In Maths, we have completed lots of projects linking our Mathematical knowledge to real life situations.
In P.E, we practiced athletics skills and practised for our sports day. Thank you to all of the parents that came to sports day, we had an amazing time being competitive sportspeople!
In DT, we completed our fairground learning journey. The children each produced their own rides. They made the circuits, cut their wood with saws, joined them together and then decorated them! They looked absolutely amazing.
In Geography, we have been learning how to conserve the Earth’s energy and help stop global warming. We have found ways to save energy in our homes and school and we understand where energy comes from.
In Computing, the children created their own videos and recorded them in groups. The children used the different filming techniques we have been learning about in this unit. They created storyboards and a script for their videos.
Finally, we had an absolutely jam packed activity week to celebrate our time at Maybury Primary school. On Monday, we had an adventurous day at Runways end, on Tuesday we showed off our baking skills and on Wednesday we enjoyed Chessington and then finally a festival and sleepover at school.
It is sad to see the Year 6 children leave Maybury but we know they are ready for their next adventures at Secondary School. Keep working hard and make sure you come back to visit!
I am writing to share some exciting news about our Year 6 students' recent participation in the Bikeability programme. This initiative not only aims to improve cycle safety and skills but also encourages responsible cycling within our community.
I would like to take a moment to congratulate Kaden and Abdul for their exemplary behaviour and outstanding work ethic throughout the programme. Their commitment and enthusiasm were noted by the Cycling Team at Surrey County Council, particularly Germaine, who was impressed with how well they represented Maybury Primary School.
In recognition of their efforts, Kaden and Abdul have been awarded bicycles through the Active Surrey charity. This initiative is part of a remarkable scheme where prisoners are equipped with valuable skills by repairing and refurbishing bikes, which are then made available to young riders in our community. It’s a wonderful example of how we can work together as a community to support one another. They were also provided with a fantastic accessory pack, which included a helmet, bike lock, lights and bike tyre pump!
I would like to extend my gratitude to Germaine and the Active Surrey programme for their work in promoting cycling safety and providing these bikes to our deserving students.
Please take a moment to congratulate Kaden and Abdul if you see them. They have made us all proud and are excellent role models for their peers.

The wellbeing of our teachers is a top priority, and we believe it is crucial to provide them with the opportunity to relax and recharge outside of their working hours. Therefore, we kindly request that you refrain from emailing the class email between 6:30pm and 6:30am or over the weekend .
We understand that communication between parents and teachers is essential, and we value your involvement and engagement in your child's education. However, by respecting these boundaries, we can collectively create a healthy work-life balance for our educators, enabling them to continue providing the high-quality education our school.
We encourage you to plan your communications accordingly, aiming to send any non-urgent emails during the school day, ideally between 8:30am and 6:30pm from Monday to Friday. By doing so, we can ensure that our teaching staff have the necessary time to respond to your queries and concerns effectively, while also striking a balance between their personal and professional lives.
We sincerely thank you for your understanding, cooperation, and ongoing support in implementing this policy. It is through our collaborative efforts that we can safeguard the wellbeing of our entire school community. If you have any urgent matters that require immediate attention outside the designated email hours, please do not hesitate to contact the school office directly.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind you that lunches are currently free for Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 students under the government's Universal Infant Free School Meals scheme. For children in Years 3 to 6, the cost of a school lunch will increase to £3.00 per day / £15.00 per week from September 2025. We would appreciate it if you could ensure that your child has sufficient funds in their lunch account. Please can we remind parents that school dinners should be paid for in advance. Please ensure that payment for the week ahead is made by the Monday morning.
Please click here to view the menus via our school website - School Meals
If your child would like to change from a packed lunch to a school dinner or vice versa, please contact the school office to advise of the change. Please note changes can only be made at the beginning of a term.
Please be reminded that we are a nut free school. Please do not send your child to school with any food containing nuts, for example Nutella / nut chocolate spread, Peanut butter, Peanut chocolate bars (Snickers) or nut cereal bars etc. If you are unsure please visit the school office to pick up a healthy lunch leaflet.
If your child has recently borrowed spare clothing from school, in particular children in Reception class, year 1 and year 2 please can we ask that these are returned. We have a washing machine onsite so you can be assured that any items returned are washed as needed.
We are also looking for donations of spare clothing such as underwear, leggings, jogging bottoms in small sizes such as ages 4 - 8. Please either hand into the office or to the class teacher. Thank you for your support.
Please see below for PE days for the AutumnTerm
The children will need to wear their correct PE kit on their PE day. Correct PE kit consists of:
· Sky blue Maybury t-shirt
· Navy blue or black hooded jacket
· Navy blue or black jogging bottoms
Trainers (only lace up if your child can tie their own laces please)
If you consider that there are exceptional circumstances relating to your request, please let the school have full details. Each application for a leave of absence will be considered on a case by case basis.
Penalty Notices to Address Poor Attendance at School
A Penalty Notice may be issued as an alternative to the prosecution of a parent/carer for their child’s unauthorised absence from school (absence without the agreement of the school or not covered by a medical note) and willbe used by Surrey County Council in the following circumstances :-
Pupils identified by police and Attendance Advice Officers (formerly Education Welfare Officers) engaged on Truancy Patrols and who have incurred unauthorised absences.
Leave of absence in term time (5 days or 10 sessions or more).
Please be aware that The Education (Pupil Registration)(England)(Amendment) Regulations 2013, which became law on 01 September 2013 state that Headteachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.
The Headteacher is also required to determine the number of school days a child can be away from school if leave is granted.
In such cases the Headteacher/Governing Body must decide whether there are exceptional circumstances. They may request that Surrey County Council issue Penalty Notices when the absence is not authorised.
Warnings will not be given where it can be shown that parents have been notified that such absences will not be authorised.
Finally, the issuing of a Penalty Notice will also be considered where it is judged that a parent is failing to ensure their child's regular school attendance.
This will be considered when a pupil has incurred 10 or more unauthorised sessions in the previous 10 school weeks, which may include a pupil arriving late after close of registration.
If you believe at any stage that your child’s absence from school may leave you liable to receive a Penalty Notice, it is extremely important that you act without delay to secure their regular attendance.
If you have any questions or require further support to achieve an improvement in your child’s attendance, please contact your child’s school or the Attendance Advice Officer.
Penalty Notice relating to Exclusions
If a child is excluded from school, Section 103 of the Education and Inspections Act 2006 places a duty on parents/carers to ensure that their child is not in a public place without justifiable cause during school hours.
This duty applies to the first five days of each exclusion. Failure to do so will render the parent/carer liable to a Penalty Notice. (Alternative education provision will be made available from the sixth day of any exclusion.)
Amount Payable for a Penalty Notice and Consequences for repeat uauthorised absences
If you have not incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children in a rolling 3 year period since 19 August 2024, then the penalty notice will be charged at the rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. This will be reduced to £80.00 if paid within 21 days of receipt of the notice. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.
If you have incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children since 19 August 2024, the rolling 3 year period will be activated from the date of the first penalty notice and the second penalty notice will be charged at the flat rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. There will be no reduction for payment within 21 days. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.
If you have incurred 2 penalty notices relating to this child/children in the rolling 3 year period since the first penalty notice was issued, then you will NOT receive a third penalty notice – Surrey County Council will have no option but to consider a prosecution, per parent/carer per child, in the Magistrates Court under s 444 Education Act 1996.
Surrey County Council is not responsible for authorising pupil absence and therefore cannot withdraw any Penalty Notice requests without the written permission of the Headteacher.

Respect
This half term’s value is Respect. Children will talk about recognising, appreciating and valuing the rights and differences of other people, animals and the planet. Respect is more than accepting or tolerating other people, it is about valuing everyone’s contribution, including their own. Ways you can develop children’s understanding at home include:
· Being a good role model. One of the best ways’ children learn is by watching you.
· Encouraging them to help you with household chores to look after your home.
· Praising respectful behaviour when they show good manners and respect others.
Books you could share at home:

Key Stage 2
Independence
This half term’s value is Independence. Encouraging children to be independent promotes their self-confidence and self-esteem. They are many ways you can support independence at home, for example by:
Involving your child in household chores such as laying the table, putting away some shopping, unloading the washing machine or tidying up.
Giving opportunities for your child to make their own choices.
Allow your child to make mistakes when they are trying to be independent.
