Sometimes, leaving home helps us discover more about ourselves. During our trip to Augusta, Sicily, we shared daily life and classes with students from the Domenico Costa Institute and realized how much we have in common — from traditions and history to language and food.
We attended their lessons, joined workshops on Sicilian tiles and music, and visited the impressive Roman Villa del Casale. We also enjoyed a boat trip with beautiful views of Augusta, though saddened by the industrial pollution in the area.
It was a short but enriching experience. The emotional goodbyes and the mayor’s invitation to return say it all — some of us are already planning to go back!
De vegades, allunyar-se de casa ens ajuda a descobrir més sobre nosaltres mateixos. Durant el nostre viatge a Augusta (Sicília), vam compartir la vida quotidiana amb l’alumnat de l’Institut Domenico Costa i vam adonar-nos de tot allò que tenim en comú: tradicions, història, llengua i gastronomia.
Vam assistir a classes, participar en tallers de taulells i música, i visitar la magnífica Vil·la romana del Casale. També vam fer una ruta amb vaixell, tot i que ens va impactar la contaminació causada per la indústria local.
Ha sigut una experiència breu però intensa. Les llàgrimes en l’acomiadament i la invitació de l’alcalde a tornar-hi en vacances ho diuen tot!
