Welcome our Mattawan FCA website! We hope that this can be used as a valuable resource for our team. Thank you!
FCA stands for Fellowship of Christian Athletes, which is what we stand for, too. Our goal is to unite as a group through our belief in Jesus Christ and our support of Mattawan athletics. Whether you are on the team or on the sidelines, we know that God is working through you. Our FCA program is about discovering how we can be better Christian examples at our school and then sharing what we learn about faith with our peers. According to fca.org, our purpose is "to empower coaches and athletes to make disciples through their example of living out Christian values." How can you be a disciple of Jesus at Mattawan High School today?
We are a team of students who want to make a Christian impact on our sports and school. Everyone is welcome - you don't need to be a Christian or an athlete in order to have a positive learning experience in FCA. All of our activities are for students and by students. We meet as a group once a week to participate in prayer, bible study, discussion, and to learn how to honor God through our daily activities. Leaders from our group work together to brainstorm topics and present them to their peers in an interactive format. We occasionally participate in extra events for team bonding or to support different sports in our community. Our growing team of Mattawan FCA high schoolers invites you to join us in our quest to combine faith with competition. Come and see for yourself if FCA is the right team for you!
Our group traditionally meets at Mattawan High School on Wednesdays. Please reference the "Events" page for specific dates and the "Communication" page if you have any questions.
When: every Thursday @ 7:00 AM (meetings last about 30 minutes)
Where: Mattawan High School, Mr. Price's classroom (room #215)
If you are interested in joining for the first time, all you need to do is show up and we will welcome you with open arms! The only thing we ask that you bring is an open mind toward the faith of your peers. You can also bring a Bible (any translation you like) if you have one that you want to use to follow along when we discuss specific verses.
Donuts will be provided! :)
Please bring your friends! As a growing team, we want to invite everyone in our school to learn about how athletics, academics, and extra curriculars fit into Jesus's plan for us. Again, anyone who is curious can come and there is no requirement to be an athlete or a Christian. Please reach out to anyone you know who might want to see what FCA is all about. You can share the attached invitation in order to help spread the word about our team!
The FCA program has been in action since 1954 and now has more that 20,849 huddles across 92 countries. They support coaches, athletes, and students of all denominations who want to bring the love of Christ to their schools and communities. Don McClanen, an original founder of this organization, once said, "For some time, I have had the idea of forming an organization of athletes and coaches in this hero-worshiping nation of ours. If athletes can endorse shaving cream, razor blades and cigarettes, surely they can endorse the Lord, too. So my idea is to form an organization that would project you as Christian men before the youth and athletes of our nation." This idea has spread all the way here to Mattawan High School, where we are a certified huddle of student athletes. Although our group is still in the making, we have more than 65 years of tradition that help teach us how to be better Christian athletes. Please check out fca.org for more information of the FCA program as a whole.
